Characters in fire emblem games follow archetypes. I think smash should focus on that instead. We've got a Myrmidon, we've got a Merc, and we sort of have a Mage. This series would really benefit from more use of the shared slot and costume features.

^No Smash 4 doesn't have a playable Myrmidon unless Lyn was somehow unlockable years later? There are 3 that play like Lords, 1 that plays like a Mercenary, 1 that plays like a Sage, and 1 Manakete/Lord. I wish we had a playable Myrmidon already, but currently there isn't one. I wouldn't mind similar class alts though.

Melee had
Marth
Roy

Brawl had
Marth
Roy
Ike

Smash 4 had
Marth
Roy
Ike
Lucina
Robin
Corrin

Smash 5 could include
Marth and Roy
keep Ike
remove Lucina
add Robin and/or Corrin since they both "saved" the franchise
possibly include Alm/ Celica from the recent FE Echoes
and then include another character from the upcoming FE game.

So keeping minimum 6 characters still. 7 at max. Yea? Nay?

moderately popular

That's not the point. Donkey Kong and Kirby may have bigger names and Metroid have a louder fanbase, but Fire Emblem is more profitable than those 3 and others. Right now Fire Emblem is printing Nintendo money-- not as much as Pokemon or Mario, but more than other series that are earning the title of "niche" in comparison.

so it can stop taking over Smash.

It's silly to continue believing that, considering it hasn't.

Considering Fire Emblem has more and will continue to accumulate more viable characters than any of the other franchises, it very well could.

Fire Emblem has 6.

Pokemon has 6.

The Super Mario franchise has 7 reps (not counting Yoshi, Donkey Kong, or Wario; all of whom started with Mario). So that's 10, technically.

Well, your standard lord class is pretty similar to a myrmidon, and they could be squeezed into Marth's moveset with little issue.

And?

but Fire Emblem is more profitable than those 3 and others.

Donkey Kong Country Returns sold better on 3DS than any of the other 3DS Fire Emblems by a very wide margin.

Granted, they haven't made a Donkey Kong gacha so you're technically right.

Honestly, I know that you mean within the FE series itself.

However, that in itself doesn't make it any likelier.
