  3. Why do people think a character has to be important to be added onto the roster?

I just don't understand it, many people try to support or discredit characters based on how "important" they are or seem to be. Yet many characters that aren't "important" and haven't been in years, are playable...

How do you even quantify "importance" anyway? Just seems like the development teams adds whoever they want if they want them to be playable.

It means whatever the person saying it wants it to mean, like most criteria used here

It basically means a Goomba won't get in because it's unimportant, and despite Plant, this is relevant because Nintendo is selling characters individually with nothing bit a flashy trailer and their legacy to market them

because basic b****es want stuff like hayabusa, so they have to come up with an excuse as to why actually cool characters can't get in.

Opinions from people and their perspectives on who should get into smash. Those serve as criteria for them.

Which is funny because it's probably more iconic than the majority of the roster.

Same reason why people think a game has to sell well in order to "deserve" a rep in Smash

I guess some feel the need to justify why their favorite should be the one who should get in.

Smash is considered an elite list of Nintendo All Stars and Video Game icons, so by this point characters need to feel deserving to people. Honestly not every 1st party is considered an All Star and not every 3rd party is that iconic, so in a way it’s become somewhat irrelevant.

Of course, importance helps because from a marketing perspective, one character might make more sense than another. For example, Ajna from Indivisible probably wouldn’t be as easily marketable as Crash Bandicoot (coming from someone who would prefer Ajna over Crash).

But in the end, what matters is what Nintendo thinks since they have final word.
Smash Most Wanteds: Shantae and Frisk
Hoping for proper Marvel vs. Capcom 4.
