I’ve been collecting stars left and right. And I already have the Ultimate Gear. What more do I need to do?

Doesnt seem that rushed or unfinished.
I think the ending was setting up a sequel

You don't set up a sequel like that today. It doesn't even count as a cliffhanger. It's just left completely unfinished.

When you play games like Castlevania and they have a bad ending, you unlock a true ending to fill the void. This was just a rushed way to finish a game.

It's a weak ending, but it does set up the sequel. In the credits sequence you see your mom in some sort of container or something (cant quite remember) and I guess it was setting up that alternative dimension thing for the sequel.

But as it stands, it is a underwhelming ending. And what's worse is, might not even be a sequel since the game didnt sell well.
