They are always calling the Enterprise the "Flagship of the Federation", which makes sense, it has a lot more to it than the Defiant, medical bays, science stations, holodecks, etc. But the Defiant is made strictly for battle.

I feel like the Defiant would win, but the Enterprise is a better ship if you know what I mean. The Defiant is just a large brute, unlike the Enterprise which is basically like a state of the art Government facility flying through space.

Sovereign-class > Defiant-class > Galaxy-class.

Nah galaxy can take the defiant too. The defiant is strong but you gotta take mass into account. The defiant is a much smaller ship.

They blow her abilities out of proportion in the show, it is meant to be a light escort ship. Later on in the series they just....stop using shields. Just stop...weapons fire impacts the hulls in the first hit during battle sequences. She starts blowing up ships two or three times her size in just a few shots.

But if you really look at her stats she has what? 4 torpedo launchers and three phasers? Blah blah phaser cannons aren't that special. I believe in the show the said that they use them to have a higher kinetic impact against borg ships but with the inconsistent nature of DS9's space battles its impossible to tell how strong they are.

But for her armaments,Thats just barely more then a galaxy class and no doubt she would have weaker shields. With the size difference even with shields down the galaxy could probably take more hits then the defiant. In generations they survived a pretty good pounding with their shields down, for awhile anyway.

Official opinion, the sovereign wipes the floor with her, the galaxy takes a high damage but still wins.

You also have to remember, the Enterprise is part battleship. Just remove the saucer section and bingo, it is battleship vs tug boat.

Defiant fought to a near stalemate with a slightly uparmed Excelsior class. Modernized Galaxy class or Sovereign class would win. The Sovereign refit from Nemesis would dominate.

Unless Riker is in command, if so, then the Galaxy class fires one shot, gets hit 50 times and gives up, then 5 people from the defiant beam over and take over the ship, all 1000 people.

I've never seen any mention of the Galaxy-class getting refits like the Lakota. Besides, even if they did that's not really answering his question as the Enterprise-D would have never gotten those upgrades. The Defiant was just shown to be a more powerful vessel then the stock Galaxy-class, as silly as it is given the size discrepancy.

I agree with Shelio but I'd think the Ent-D might be a bit stronger than other Galaxy classes. So it's close between Ent-D and Defiant with Ent-D winning barely, and the Ent-E wins by a bit more.

this goes back to my point about how inconsistent the defiant was portrayed. All the ships really, hell they had whole klingon cruisers being one shot by photon torpedos during way of the warrior.

And the shield thing. So yeah Enterprise SHOULD win, but defiant wins by a landslide for its ability to take on multiple ships three times its size and win...

Just going by what we have seen, the enterprise was fairly afraid of the cardassian Galor class ships, which the defiant chews up for breakfast. Similarly during the big battle scenes you can see galaxy class ships cleaving through keldons, bigger more powerful ships, with single phaser bursts.

Its just too wildly inconsistent to really take an opinion from the show. Best guess would be using a tech manual or just trying to common sense it.

This is sadly because the graphics people aren't really involved in the creative process, someone says hey give me a cool battle scene where this happens and they turn it in. Usually its too late to have them redo it and they have to stick with it. So really we have lazy graphic artists who don't give a damn about trek and producers who don't care enough to correct it.

Come to think of it. this is almost worse then voyager.

IF you can't tell this has been a pet peeve of mine since DS9 was on the air.
