Nah. MM1 is objectively the worst, by far. It was legit broken, and every game that's come since has improved on the formula in some way.

How is it broken? The controls can be a little slippy I suppose.

Do you consider it a case of bad design though?

Being a boss vulnerable to one of the worst weapons in game?
Yes indeed.

Crash bomber can be used against quick man, flash man, a number of enemies from metal, bubble, and wood man's stages, gets rid of the block walls, and is effective against wily phase 1 and 2.

It's fifth best for me, ahead of air shooter (which is good, though I don't tend to use it often), bubble (which I rag on, though it is alright), and flash stopper (which I don't really hold to anything, it's to help kids get through the lasers in quick man's stage, or deal with a tricky section full of enemies, it's less a weapon and more of an ability that you have to commit the full bar of ammo to use).

I always thought MM8 or MMBass were the worst of the classic series, TBH.

So are you telling me that as soon as you buy a new game, you know everything about it instantly these days? Every level, every area, every secret, boss and baddie? Its just automatically downloaded to your brain or something and you people never once had to learn to actually play a brand-new game that hasn't even had a damn guide written for it. Yup it suuuuure is bad game design when you hafta figure out how to play.

I was watching a video of Nintendo designers explaining level design as applied to their own games vs. Mario Maker, and one of the things they frequently like to do is introduce an obstacle that's fairly easy to get around early on, and then gradually throw more stuff on top of the obstacle so by the end of the level people actually will have a good idea how to tackle it.

It actually applies to a lot of their games.

1) Introduce X mechanics/gameplay/obstacles (Earlygame)
2) Test understanding of X mechanics/gameplay/obstacles (Mid~End-Game)
3) Test mastery of X mechanics/gameplay/obstacles (Post-Game)

MM3 had that cheat on nes where it made you basically invulnerable to everything but spikes.

Ah yes, it was a good time playing with my feet hitting the right buttons on the second controller.
