Uh yeah. Connery’s Bond was. Even in the best case scenario, the man flat out threatened to get a woman fired if she didn’t have sex with him. Even if you say “well she liked it in the end” there is a huge red line being crossed. His first inclination was to threaten her job. It’s just something that happened in older bond films… like honey rider and quarrel looking at tank tracks and believing it to be proof of dragons, and trying to pass off Connery as Japanese with nothing but a wig. There was just a LOT of stupid s*** that got weeded out of the series.

and it’s really specific only to Connery’s Bond. Lazenby fell in love with Tracy. Moore was charmer but never had to trick anyone or threaten anything, even in Golden Gun, where he was his most ruthless. Dalton was pure business and seemingly ignored women. Brosnan is on the other end of this; he got manipulated bad 2 movies in a row by the “let’s have sex so you trust me” trick. So did Craig….but Craig is also the depression porn Bond so I really have no idea how anyone sleeps with that version to begin with. But still, he falls in love.

the magic dick trope is really all Connery’s era and no one else.

Moore's Bond literally stacked the deck against a virgin tarot card reader in order to have his way with her, which is definitely one of the more "questionable consent" scenes in any of the movies.

Bond didn't rape her, but he is also not a clean-perfect good guy. He have low views of women masquerading a very low view of himself. Vesper's death messed him up, because he basically deserted his country, his first true love betrayed him, but he also knows she hadn't much options.

Blackmail is not rape and will never be.

Not this s*** again...
To be honest, this is something I never consider about so this is my first hearing about the issue on Sean Connery's 007, but from what I read so far, it the same situation with Disney's old school fairytales of Snow White & Sleeping Beauty fall into this as well.

I think people used to understand that sex is sometimes a push-pull thing and there can be friction and tension. I mean using modern standards Han Solo cornered princess Leia in a dark closet and forced himself on her when she was explicitly saying “no.” In reality though there was a subtext going on there in which they both had the hots for the other but their egos and differing sensibilities were preventing them from acting on. But now decades of ideological brainwashing has conditioned people into believing that all exchanges must be robotic and sterile and contractually agreed upon. Because everybody sucks now and the world is going to complete s***. Thats whats going on here.
This is also something I never thought of since Han knew Leia was slowly falling in love, but let's not forget she also force Luke in it as well and I don't remembering anyone arguing about that (and this was before we found out they are siblings) so it goes both ways. Though I'm just disappointed both Han & Leia never settle down to start a family and both went their ways.

I didn’t like it at first, but after thinking about it there are a couple times that what happened in Connery’s movies wouldn’t, and probably shouldn’t, fly today. That scene in Thunderball is one of them. Bond basically forcing himself on p**** Galore in Goldfinger was a lot worse.

Seriously? They were fighting. Also, that snapshot is likely a blooper reel as it didn't happen in the movie IIRC. Goldfinger accomodated the encounter to fool his enemies that were nearby into believing Bond was having a good time instead of been held hostage. Bond began courting her with words, she began a small fight. Bond took the upper hand in that fight, and in a matter of seconds, she accepted her advances, to the point that she turned to his side and decided to help Bond win the movie in that moment. If you've ever heard about people jokingly saying about a fight that "ends in sex", this was pretty much it.
Last finished: Time Pilot (ARC+MSX+2600+Coleco), Space Pilot (C64), Star Castle (ARC), Blast Off (ARC), Bosconian (X68K), Vanguard (Arcade+2600).

No. It's very rapey, and they in fact had to tone it down from the book, where it's even worse (she is explicitly a lesbian in the book and has never had the slightest interest in men at all).

Yeah he's a real a****** in the first 2 movies. Then a bumbling clown in the rest.
