I've come to the conclusion that a not insignificant number of people (some on this board, too) are perfectly happy with the arrangement that theaters remain closed forever. they got their home theater so what do they care? just pony up a hundred bucks a month for your half dozen different streaming services, you underlings.

A hundred bucks is what I pay a year for streaming not a month.

Traditional Theatres is probably going to be slowly dying. But the fancy theatres are probably going to stay afloat depending on how long covid is year.

I went to the theatres twice early last year to watch 2 mediocre films (The Grudge and Invisible Man) on opening weekend.
Grudge - we saw it at one of the special all inclusive theatres that serve alcohol and diner food. It was packed.
Hollow Man - saw it at a traditional theatre, it was pretty empty. Maybe 10-20 other people.

* When Covid ends, I want to go watch a movie in the 4d or whatever it's called (3d plus moving chairs and such).

I think that would be one saving grace are those 4D experiences you mention. I don't know if we have one in my city but that sounds like a blast.

It won't be covid that keeps theaters closed down, it's hollywood/major studio execs. The latter is running the show. They have chosen tv/streaming over theaters as a business model, simple as that. Whether this is a permanent thing or not remains to be seen, if money is still good and makes sense to em, they won't go back to the prev way and that WILL be the end.

Not sure if I trust any COVID word coming out of the mouth of a California-based operative.
