  3. So what should be done about diversity in Hollywood?
If we don't push for it, they'll never do it. But If we push too hard, it'll hurt the cause.

Forced diversity in Hollywood is stupid. There needs to be equality in education, to then put diverse and qualified people in decision making positions. Then we can pick for ourselves the projects to make and the people to participate. It's f***ing sickening to read about white people arguing about which tokens they think needs to be thrown in for woke points.

The most likely outcome is that they diversify the group of people that is responsible for nominating movies. Hollywood isn't going to continue to take bad press like this year after year.
Maybe next year...

Who is we? Also, why do we care more about diversity in Hollywood (where most of us will never work or live) and not about the rest of the world? I'm supposed to cry because this actor millionaire got a job over that actor millionaire?

Also, nothing should be "done" outside of what's already being done because the only thing that will improve this situation is time. More new ideas coming in and less old ones coming out. You can not force these things and, like TC said, pushing people too hard makes them turn on you.

At the same time, folks have got to stop criticizing a movie because it didn't have enough diversity. It is not the job of a FILM to be the moral compass for society. If a movie's script calls for all-white characters or doesn't have a token gay couple, this should not be criticized. If it bothers you just don't see the movie but enough whining about it. Movies are great because they represent all ideas.

lots of mediocre straight white men are hired over and over to make bad/mediocre movies.

no reason why mediocre queer ppl or mediocre poc or mediocre women shouldn't also be hired to make lots of garbage.

I remember when I was younger I was fuming over the casting for The Last Airbender where the Inuit based brother sister team, Sokka and Kitara were played by Caucasian actors. I mean mind you I was fuming over the poor acting, writing and adapting too. But I remember in my mind then that this was a case of injustice and yeah looking back it was a bit of an SJW moment for me.

Nothing...eventhough we have a long way to go (no sense why the Awkafina chick or Eddie wasn't nominated), next year they will probably do another 'BLack Panther' type move and nominate a whole bunch of minorities to 'Appease' the #OscarsSo***** movement and then the next year they are back to their old shenanigans

A good story and, yeah, I dislike this too. It's ACTING and the audience is supposed to suspend their disbelief. It also kills the magic of movies since you're not really supposed to take into account the real-life background of the actors when looking at the characters they play. It's also a bit hypocritical since no one ever complains when traditionally white characters are played by other races.

(no sense why the Awkafina chick or Eddie wasn't nominated)

It's bulls*** like this that needs to go too. Like there can't be ANY argument that these just weren't as good as the ones nominated? Eddie Murphy hasn't been in a decent movie in years and now he MUST be nominated?

Especially when those complaining haven't even seen the movies of the people who DID get nominated. Complaining about someone not being nominated simply because they're a minority is just as racist as leaving them off for the same reason.

Also why do minorities always seek validation from the Oscars anyway?

Yup just like 'Joker'...

How is it, that the only two Comic Book roles EVER will win the Best Actor (or Supporting) in just over a 10 year span? Wasn't there any other Comic Book roles (Logan, Black Panther, RDJ) worth nominating?
