I really wish Marvel would do something in the movies to honor Jack Kirby, the actual creator and writer of most of these characters. No one knows who he is.

Agreed. Stan did a lot for the industry, but he receives a lot of praise that he didn't earn.

he had the three main benefits of being alive for Marvel's rise from the 2000-2018, having a relatively stainless reputation, and being more active than artists like Steve Ditko, who chose to remain to themselves

if Jack Kirby was alive now and cameo in recent Marvel movies, I'm sure he'd be as popular as Stan Lee

Unfortunately, Kirby would not be as well known as Stan Lee, nor was he for all the decades before the movies.

As far back as the 40’s Lieber (Stan Lee) has actively downplayed and outright lied about Kirby’s involvement in the creation and authorship of Marvel’s characters and stories. The reason Kirby isn’t as known is because he worked freelance for Marvel while creating all those characters. Lieber was never able to get Kirby to work for the company, and because of that Kirby represents a threat to Marvel’s ownership of the characters.

In the Lee/Kirby comics, Lieber credited himself as writer and Kirby as artist. However, Kirby was the primary author. Lieber, as editor, reworded Kirby’s dialogue, and used that as an excuse to credit himself as writer. Look at any of Kirby’s original artwork and you’ll see Kirby’s original dialogue written directly onto the art. The meaning is mostly unchanged. Lieber simply reworded it. Those originals Marvel would not give back to Kirby, who had to fight for them to get them back. Neither Kirby nor his estate were able to get all of his artwork back.

Here is a mini comic that Lieber wrote in the 40’s. It describes the creation of Captain America. There is no mention of Kirby or Joe Simon. All credit is given to Martin Goodman, the editor of Timely (Marvel), who by they way was the husband of Lieber’s cousin.

Didn't they record like a dozen cameos before he died? Are they just going to throw them away?
