No more Best Actor/Actress.

Include all performances and call it “Best Performance”.

Why?

People have been calling for equality and Actor/Actress is the only category (along with SupportIng) that separates the sexes. It’s archaic.

We don’t have “Best Male Director” and “Best Female Director” do we? So why do we only separate the sexes for these categories?

Then the problem is when the nominees end up being all men.

This is the best answer in the topic. Thanks Brimi. That could be a huge issue. Maybe I would like to see Best Actor/Actress and then best performance. That might be cool.

I guess I would like to see the best performance between the best Actor and Actress. That would be really cool

The Television Critics Association awards combine them. Last year was almost the opposite of what I was saying with the nominees being very female centric.

But why? What do you think would be gained from it? What part of your curiosity about screen performances is currently not being satisfied by the gender split? Are really you that eager to see whether Brie Larson could win for a movie that made $14.7 million over Leonardo DiCaprio for a movie that made $183.64 million?

The institutional biases of both the Academy and the industry at large regarding gender and the types of stories deemed worthy of attention have long been established. The separation of categories by gender is one of the few things actively working against that bias.

Just really, really dumb.
