Seriously. It's like they overlook said mistakes and flaws because she's more competent than they wanted. Luke Skywalker has one of the last Jedi sacrifice his life for him, pilots a fighter he's never been in on a near suicide run and performs a near impossible shot to destroy the greatest superweapon the galaxy's ever known. A mere few years later, with little training he walks into the palace of the greatest crime lord alive with 'god mode on', rescues his friends without a single casualty despite facing a small army of killers, redeems his Sith father and causes the collapse of the Empire.

Far less b****ing there. Or about, hell, almost any 'god mode' male hero.

This is so ridiculous. Luke did this over three movies and we saw him grow. Rey is already doing stuff on her first day with the force that it took the other protagonists years to learn. You are completely overshadowing how many times Luke f***ed up and the rest of the cast had to save his bacon. Rey here gets everything done pretty easily it seems. This movie pretty much copies a ton of ANH but instead of Luke the novice who is good at one or two things and must grow as a Jedi we get someone who is good at everything and instantly becomes a Jedi doing things it took other jedi, even the previous chosen one protagonists, years to learn

All things she'd need to be good at given her time on Jakku...and 'understands every language spoken?' Which amount to basic and...what else? Shriiwook? Almost everyone we seen in SW can understand multiple languages. Han, Luke and Anakin could understand plenty.

Also, a mind trick is an 'advanced technique?' And a fight against an injured opponent who was over-emotional, incompletely trained...when we don't know Rey's own backstory yet, and the Force itself being on her side?

I'm sure you plenty strong, competent women. This 'MARY SUE' squealing is just pathetic, though, and sorry, does have the air of sexism to it as nobody would bat an eye if Rey was a guy. If some people don't want to be seen as pitiful whiners, they should stop whining so pitifully.

We 'saw him grow?' No, Luke shows up in the last movie wen ESB ended with him getting his ass handed to him by Vader and he's suddenly a top Jedi out of nowhere. We don't know what Rey received before she got to Jakku, and there are factors that explain her win over Kylo Ren, such as the all powerful force that binds all life being on her side.

Oh, did anyone b**** when Obi-wan as a padawan suddenly held his own against and ended up killing a trained Sith Lord who killed his master?

If Rey was in ANH she would have beat-up the raiders, beat up the guy in the cantina, figured out the trash compactor, shot Darth Vader's tie fighter herself etc

Luke got worked about 1000% more than her and she had more showings in one movie than he had in 3...at least 2

The main difference is that Luke was sheltered by his aunt and uncle while Rey had to fend for herself. That's all. She still makes mistakes in the movie and has character flaws. She isn't abnormally competent for a film protagonist and if she were a guy nobody would blink an eye at any of it.

She is a great pilot, mechanic, scavenger, climber, understands every language spoken in the movie, is an ace shot her first time out, uses the force with no training we see and uses advanced techniques, then wins a light saber duel against someone who should be much stronger and more experienced than her

None of her mistakes are brought up or hurt things...turns out her mistakes work for the better

She might not be worse than some op characters in other fiction but it was pretty glaring in this movie especially in light of the previous 6 movies

I'm sorry, what's the title of the movie again?

The problem people have isn't her gender, it's that she runs around with god mode on.

She doesn't though. No more than any other movie protagonist does

Rey makes Han look like a mediocre pilot and a s***ty mechanic who doesn't know his own ship, makes Kylo Ren look like a chump, and makes Luke look like an incredibly slow learner. She's a boring invincible hero with no logical explanation for her capabilities.

there's no in universe justification for what i saw on screen. it became silly at a certain point and destroyed all suspension of disbelief

Lolwut?

Han had been off the Falcon for years and he and Rey played off on another well there. Kylo Ren was a badly injured, half-trained, angsty kid and Luke in ESB could very well have taken him down as well. If Rey fought Vader, she'd have been smashed.

Also, do people just totally overlook the role of The Force at the end? Rey closes her eyes, connects with it and lets herself fight with the Force as a Jedi is supposed to. It's far less her own ability as her letting the Force flow through her.

Once again, people b****ed way less when Obi-wan, a padawan, was able to fight with and kill Darth Maul

Rey hops into the Falcon's pilot seat and, after a clumsy takeoff, is immediately pulling off stunts that would make the Blue Angels think twice. She also knows all the inner workings of the ship for no apparent reason, and knows them better than Han or Chewie, considering that she's able to fix the thing that breaks as soon as they jump to hyperspace before Han has even figured out what broke. She's handed a blaster despite having never apparently used one and, after missing her first shot, gets one-shot-one-kill hits on every other stormtrooper who enters her line of sight. Anakin's lightsaber calls to her for no apparent reason, screaming like an infant to summon her even though no lightsaber has ever done anything like that before in canon OR Legends. She not only resists but reverses Kylo Ren's mind probe on the first try in the torture chamber, reading his thoughts though he tried to read hers. She successfully employs a Jedi mind trick despite having never used the Force before. She defeats Kylo Ren, who has a great deal more experience than she does, despite having never used a lightsaber before. And somehow the story contrives for her to be the only human to go meet Luke even though the entire Resistance has been looking for him the whole movie and his sister now honestly has nothing better to do, since nearly the entire First Order seems to have just been obliterated and it's not like she has any other family to spend time with anymore.

But "letting the Force flow through you" takes training though.

Unless some kind of awakening of the force happened. Maybe they should make a movie about that
