  3. Do sims pay their own bills while you're playing as other households?

I've lately started to branch out and create other households to play as rather than just having one household to do everything, but I couldn't help but notice that time still progresses as normal when your playing as another household and not function on a household by household basis. Which is fine, I don't have any issue with that, but I can't help but wonder, will the households I'm not playing as still keep up with their bills or would I have to go back and micromanage every single household in fear of their utilities being shut off?

I imagine it's the former, not the latter but ever since getting City Living you have rent thats due weekly on top of bills and I have two households that are neighbours living next door to each other, one of which I haven't touched and haven't given them jobs yet. Do I have to micromanage this? Should I be concerned?

Just want to bump this back up a bit, I'd still love to know the answer if anyone else does.

I don't think they pay any bills if you're not playing them. Although they may appear in another Sim's play-time, it doesn't affect their time. I have about 10 homes going on in my game.

Oh really? So if I jump back into a previous household would they be exactly where I last left them only with a few new friends/social interactions, etc in their stats page?

This is the first sims game I've played where I've had multiple households in the same save file so it's all kinda new to me to be honest. With the previous games I always had one household per save file and just assumed that was how it was supposed to be done. Honestly never considered trying it differently until now.

They should be where you left them off. Under the settings, however, is an option to have them age up even when not playing them.

Ah I keep aging off. It's good to know though, thanks.

Based on my observations, I don't think they get billed since I haven't seen Do-Nothing Malcolm Landgrabb get evicted even as an old unemployed man despite living in a mansion lol.

However, I have seen the sims make their own relationships and hobbies; after a long time away from my original sim, he buffed out considerably and got to know a whole lot of new sims I never introduced him to--and I bumped into him regularly while playing as his son lol. Since he was a polygamist (with that perk from Serial Romantic which basically lets him get away with serial adultery) that habit appears to be going strong since I regularly saw him with an attractive woman on a date lol.

But it seems like the most activity happens with sims I've played as, rather than ones I haven't. It'd be interesting to mark a lot of sims as "played" and see what happens.
