Native rendering means the game is rendered at that resolution. Upscaling is a post processing effect that takes the native render and increases it artificially to display at a higher resolution. Upscaling looks worse and it's usually done by your TV. Anyway all PS2 to PS4 games run at around 1292x896 with some minor upscaling to achieve 1080p.

You didnt actually answer the question. Difference between upscaling and uprendered. Native rendering is common knowledge.

What part do you not understand? There are two types of resolution of 1080p. Native 1080p (the game renders at 1920x1080) or upscaling (the system outputs at 1920x1080 but the game renders at a lower resolution). When NotACertainTree said "uprendered" he means the original native resolution has been increased. An upscale is completely different, it's a post processing algorithm usually handled by the console itself (PS2 and PS1 games on PS3 are upscaled) or your TV.

That doesnt make sense. "Uprendering" isnt native 1080p, according to you, but at the sametime it's not the same as "upscaling", according to you. Contradicting much. Either the term means one of the two, is its own thing, or doesnt exist at all.

Ok some universal corrections/updates. So up-rendering is a thing (im use to other terms) and it's not the same as up-scaling. Up-scaling is for the most part like stretching the image to fit the screen entirely or just the sides while also not increasing the actual pixels.

No it's not.

All ps2onps4 games are given a 4x resolution boost to 1080p.

Not even a question.

They are upscaled. It does not run at a native 1080p.

No upscaling. It is uprendered.

Sony themselves referred to it as upscaled several times. What is the difference between the two anyway..

This is wrong. I got mixed up with several other articles, after Playstation Blog, using the term up-scaling and other terms. This also means some articles are spreading misinformation... somewhat. Depends on the wording since these Jak games does in-fact not natively run at 1080p (JaD). That part actually is up-scaling. But the main resolution increase does come from up-rendering, thus the estimated native resolution of 1024x448
