If you're building for element, go all out with <element> 5. Sharpness only boosts raw, not element.

If you're building for raw, with element only as an added bonus, go with more sharpness.

Sharpness boosts element. It has it's own modifier.

Hmmm, you're right. And the difference between the white and purple element modifiers is an extra +7.5%. That's huge. The difference between <element>4 and <element>5 is only an extra +5%. I take back my advice. I think you're right - sharpness wins, assuming you can keep purple through the fight.
