I'm just wondering what skills you're giving up and keeping when fighting Xeno.

I basic Max Might/WE build dropped from 3MM to 1 in order to use Heat Guard. I haven't fought him without Heat Guard, and after seeing why people use it, I can't imagine that not being a necessary skill vs him.

Tremor Res is another skill that I see being mentioned a lot and as a glutton user it's probably fairly important. If I want to include, using the Armor builder, the best set I can think of is

Spread
NEB
WE 3
HB 3
Heat Guard
Trem Res 3
Ammo Up 3
Critical Boost 1

Then the extra skills with the set I decided on have
Tool Specialist 2 (Perhaps useful for Temporal/Evasion mantle)
Divine Protection 1

I could probably pick a different set with Attack 2, Stun 2, or Wide Range 2 if I'm doing MP. Stun 2 looks like it would probably be the most useful on a consistent basis, but I Divine Protection *might* save me from that sweeping laser beam that I can't manage to dive through for some reason and perhaps I might get an extra mantle use with Tool Specialist 2. If not I can always change those.

Regardless, is anyone finding the fight fairly easy without Trem Res? Or extremely helpful with some other skill? The few times I tried it without Trem res I'd kill him on my 3rd faint. I kept getting stuck in blasts near his feet, or as mentioned, failed to dive through that laser beam if I was either in a really bad position and couldn't run to his head or lost time trying trying to avoid it because of a tremor animation.

When he does the explosions near his feet, you want to move away from the feet by either moving under the chest, towards the tail/hindlegs, or under the head. If under the head, take care to not move ahead of it as that is where to first blast starts.

You know he's doing this attack if his head begins to shake and nose points at the ground twice, usually has a distinct cry. He acts fast after the explosion so your reaction needs to be short ie. don't Dragon Piercer.

Yeah explosions near his feet aren't an issue anymore. There are 3 waves that spread out in a circle. Each wave has a delay, and each wave's explosions have a narrow gap between them. Aiming for the gap as it explodes or right after has worked very well. Essentially run towards him.

That beam though. Is it not possible to dive? I'm trying to dive away from Xeno but it keeps rolling. Do I need to dive away from the beam instead?

A temporary solution is keeping slinger bombs equipped. It knocks him out of the animation.

Also Im trying to figure out how much defense a gunner needs to survive an enraged laser. I managed to survive with 525 so I'm double checking that again

If you mean the Ground Pound into the quadruple Explosion, there is a weak tremor when he hits the ground. Depending on your weapon, you can use it to your advantage by sheathing early and using the stumble to cancel an otherwise lengthy sheathing animation. From there, you can either dive, continuously dive if you timed too early, or run away. I can't constantly roll between explosions so I stopped trying.

Which beam are you having trouble with? They are pretty telegraphed and can be dived through. He might as well say "XENO BEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMM"

Go full DPS with impact mantle/rocksteady and shoot the foot.

@DS_Aneila

I like Glutton but I try to avoid stagger locking monsters. That's a good tip though, I'm not having any trouble with him atm now that I'm used to his attack patterns.

@bassyura

His wide, sweeping beam. I can usually sheath and run toward his face and avoid it. If I have slinger bombs I can stagger him. However, if I'm in a weird position with no slinger bombs I've only been able to dive once. Every other time my character rolls. I can dive roll fine with every other attack. I don't know why I can't dive away from this one more than that 1 time.

All his explosions are really easy to avoid atm. They all have a delay. Roll into the explosions as they go off. The period where the explosion can hit you is very brief and you'll not be hit. More importantly the ones where you were standing/behind you won't hit you either. I've never actually rolled into the explosion and been hit, but I've been hit by the ones behind me when I was rolling too late.

The other ones that go straight forward are easy to dodge too. First there's a line of explosions straight from the face. Right as they're about to explode again roll into them. Then the ones on the side won't hit you.

For the other explosions like from his wing stomp, roll behind him toward his crotch if you're close enough. Same with the other explosions from when he sweeps his arm.

You cannot dive through the horizontal sweeping beam if you are approaching it from a distance. It does not matter if you are the only living thing in a mile radius from AT Xeno and he could not possibly be targeting anything but you, the game still does not count you as being in combat. Same with Nerg's divebomb if you are too close.

Dive is flawed.

TC: Do you have enough tickets to get Xeno Gamma pieces yet? I don't remember what I used exactly before I substituted in Xeno Gamma, as they work so damn well for Glutton. (They work well enough that you would still do well using them even if they didn't have Spare Shot.)

I do remember that I did well using Tremor Res 3, Health Boost 3, and Heat Guard, then basically building up a critical-based build minus Free Element / Ammo Up 3. I do not recommend a Shield mod based defense, as I was suggested by another user here.

You can MOI through the beam. I've done it, but I didn't suggest it because it takes practice. Although if TC can roll through explosions, it's an option for him to use in that scenerio.

@Sirk

Can you elaborate? You mean if I'm too far I can't dive right? I've managed to dive once out of probably 10-15 tries.

Evil mentioned tremor res 2 being enough. I tried 3 and 2 and I agree that 2 is enough. I'm curious, you mentioned having 100 affinity, with all or almost all the other Glutton skills AND tremor res/heat guard. What's your setup? Or were you using an affinity booster?

@bassyura

Please refresh my memory. MOI? I've rolled through the beam a few times accidentally while diving so yeah I know that's a thing. Already have all my Xeno stuff but I'm having fun with this fight in general now that I have some extra practice.
