  3. Seeds not growing?
TommyOh 2 years ago#1
I started playing this recently, got to work on my first home and some other building projects; but for some reason, some of my seeds wont grow.
I know about biomes and how some seeds wont grow in their non-native biome; that isn't the issue. The seeds I'm having issue with are simple cotton and berry bush seeds. They're planted on normal grass squares and next to other cotton and berry plants that grew just fine; what's the issue?

Check you're in the right biome.
Some seeds need the dirt to be hoed

Are they getting sun light?
My early house had the same problem, with the plants growing too close to walls not growing.

Other than that, it can be a matter of the squares next to the plants (walls, air, drop etc.) as certain plants will not grow without the room to do so.

Edit: Here's for answering a four month old thread :D

Yeah it was an issue with them not getting enough sun, at least for the cotton plants that weren't growing. The berry bushes were in direct sunlight, correct biome, hoed the ground, etc. Weird issue, might've just been too many berry bushes in one area.
Didn't expect this thread to get answers four months later lol.
Kind of a text dump...but this is what I know to be true.

Here's some more info on that. Seeds can be planted in either grass or hoed dirt...but if planted in hoed dirt they grow 3x as fast. Buildings often block the sun, but there's a great way around that. Just like in real life, the sun will rise and set from the same direction every day. Which means, if you have a large building, just build your farm plots on the opposite side. Also, if you are the type that makes a border wall around your island, make sure it's not on the end where the sun rises from or it will cast a long shadow. Sunlight can mostly pass through fences. If you haven't done so before, hoe a very large farm plot. Then place a row of short fences up. Then just sit in the empty fam plot while the sun rises and moves to overhead. Watch the shadows. They actually move in real time. They actually stretch and shrink to match the sun's position! I notice this game has more and more cool features every time I play.
