Byleth, Edelgard, Petra (powerleveled with dancer), Sylvain, and Ferdinand were all wyvern lords. Ingrid was a falcon knight. This group was the key to getting through the mode, ESPECIALLY that ridiculous final chapter.

Lysithea and Dorothea were gremories. Lysithea is easily the best unit in the entire game. It's ridiculous how good she is.

Bernadetta was a bow knight.

Hubert was a dark knight.

The two loose ends were Linhardt (bishop, but obviously he was just a heatbot) and Jeritza.

The hardest parts of the game were the very beginning (you're fighting over every square), chapter 5, chapter 14, and the final chapter.

congrats, I find it interesting you found the last chapter to be difficult. I found the second to last level with Dimitri to be the most challenging. Along with some of the others you mentioned.

Ch 5 was hard for me because I tried my hardest to keep gilbert alive only to have him run up and suicide on the boss after my blessing pull. Then I finally gave up, (mostly because I was out of divine pulses and didn't feel like reliving that hell).

I mean I was literally using 3-4 characters to draw back and swap on him every turn to keep him from agroing the entire map on us.

It's interesting that you say Lysithea was the best unit when most people report that mages are weak on maddening.

Mages are only weak on chapters where they lack access; ie, the last chapter.

Giving Lysithea an increased range item makes her obnoxious. Gilbert has a Tomahawk? Luna from 3 panels away. Boss is annoying as f***? Luna from 3 panels away. Cavalry got you down? Dark Spikes. Monster too hard to kill? Seraphim and laugh. All that didn't work? Abraxas. She's utterly insane.

That chapter is so dumb and is the main reason why I hate re-doing any playthrough on maddening. I used to have this one gif that was about a panda doing stupid things and the caretaker kept pulling the panda back to safety.. but I can't find it. It's a very fitting gif I promise.

Congrats!

The final chapter is legit for sure but I didn't find it quite as bad as some others (such as the last two maps of Azure Moon). Having lots of fliers lets you really use the terrain to your advantage. The pegasus knight reinforcements are rude and may draw out divine pulses to learn where/when they appear, but wyvern Edelgard can go on a Raging Storm pegasus erasure spree at worst.

Lysithea is good but it sounds like some of your praise for her should be given to Thyrsus instead (in particular: any boss without the Counterattack skill can be clowned by a Thyrsus user), which is a great relic in the hands of any mage. I'd definitely consider the lords to be better units by a notable amount. Even as far as mages go I prefer some of the ones who get Physic but Lys does have a bit more killing power than the competition so it depends what you emphasize.

I didn't have Thyrsus. I had the, uh... Caduceus Staff?
