Probably my biggest complaint with Edelgard is the she at least doesn't seek out the help of others, Claude especially. But okay, trust the professor who just walked into your life.

The whole messed up thing about the game's plot is that deep down most of the major players wanted roughly the same thing and could of talked things out. Dimitri's and Edlegard's conflict was largely a misunderstanding that could of been avoided with dialouge but by the point that Edlegard's identity was revealed Dimitri was too consumed in his blood lust to listen and by the time he recovered years later in his own story, Edlegard is too set on her path to listen to a compromise while in all other routes he dies consumed in a misguided rage.

Rhea and Edlegard both don't like the current system or way of the world and both would rather see Twistd destroyed. However Edlegard's desire to remove the Church and remove Rhea puts them at odds even though it was ultimately unnecessary since Rhea was likely planning on stepping down eventually and giving leadership to Byleth since they literally had the power of God at that point. Not to mention literally everyone knew the current nobility and crest system was unsustainable. In the end the baggage that Dimitri Edlegard, and Rhea all carry lead them to make terrible choices and made compromise impossible.

It is fitting that throughout his story Claude who is the only one not personally involved with Fodlan's events as he is an * outsider* could see how kind of meaningless it all was. Dimitri dying a pointless death earlier and as showed in the above pic Claude lamenting that instead of Hubert being alive and telling him about what was really going on and the identity of Twistd he left a letter in case he and Edlegard fell in battle which is what happened and likely was the only way for the war to end at that point.
In the end the most important things are the basics.

It's just dumb and edgy, they try to paint these characters as youthful leaders bright with knowledge and communications. Then again, I think if there was a peace route, people would probably hate it. Like with Revelations, it renders all the setup and alternate routes kinda meaningless.

Would you trust a mortal or A GOD?!
El, my dear, in order to prove that you are right, you must become stronger than anyone else.

The first thing she said to you in prologue is there is this strange aura about you, and the first thing she said to Claude "wtf why did you run, you ass?"
