Been thinking about getting this game but noticed there are two versions, one that just says Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and another that has the title but some other gold text at the top, what's the difference?

The former is the full game. Latter has lesser play hour.

Why did they release two versions?

To explain it better, one is the main game Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the other is Torna the Golden Country, an expansion pass addition that is also available as a standalone game

Ohhh. Okay. Would you recommend getting both?

Sure. XC2 is a nice game on its own and Torna is a nice backstory game that also polished the mechanics and trimmed some of the fat.

edit: However, you shouldn't play Torna before XC2 despite it being a backstory game.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the main game.

Torna, the Golden Country is a prequel to the main game, set 500 years in the past.

^ You can buy the main game, then get the expansion story and bonus content as an additional download
