Tier List Template: https://tierlists.com/create/top-games-1996

As before, everyone can rank their faves how they want to based on a selection of the 50 or so top user rated games from that year on various database sites. You can download a pic when finished without logging in and post it here, or post a top 20 list. The plan is to keep going until 1999, about twice a week and finishing at the end of 2019.

I'm going by original release dates and mostly original versions of games unless there's a consensus about a port being better or it's significantly different like Rygar on NES for example - if not you can see the original version as a catch-all for other versions.

Such a great era! Wild ARMs is my favorite RPG ever, easy MVP of the year for me.

Plus so much weirdness coming from everywhere because nobody was sure was going to be the new normal with how many radical changes were happening.

Jumping Flash 2 is one particular non-included game I would rank high, easy S tier for me.

Oooooh 1996 is a great year. I might actually have to do this one. How do you add games that aren't already provided? Does it have to be the +5 voting thing or can we add 'em ourselves?

Either vote or add them by making a list, downloading the pic and copy pasting the missing games into it in any image editor. Just make sure the title is readable

Something like that for me rn (unranked at the bottom). There were many creative but ultimately flawed or outdated/outdone games this year. I also have some catching up to do for this year and the late 90s in general.

Additional +1s:
Deadly Rooms of Death (PC)
Final DOOM (PC)
Rocket Jockey (PC) - this is an S-Tier entry for me
Clock Tower (PS)
Jumping Flash! 2 (PS)
Twisted Metal 2 (PS)
Pilotwings 64 (N64)
Wave Race 64 (N64)
Bug Too! (SAT)
Cu-On-Pa (SFC) - FYI, GameFAQs cites this as a port of Endorfun but it is a unique game; the mechanical rotation idea for it was licensed by the Endorfun people or something like that.

Hey is anyone fluent in the Choro Q series of racing games? I'm 90% sure the game I like (Penny Racers/Choro Q 64 from 1998) is a different game than Penny Racers/Choro Q from 1996 on PlayStation since the developers are different. My plan was to +1 this game in 1998, but if it's the same game I'd +1 it here.

The only ones particularly hard to make out are Indycar Racing 2 and maybe Alien Trilogy.
If you ran the world, it would probably be on fire right now.

Hard to say. A lot of them are extremely similar and have different titles depending on territory - it gets especially confusing in the 6th gen where there are two games with the same title in different territories which aren't the same game. I know this doesn't really answer your question, but just letting you know that has happened for this series and it may also apply to earlier titles in the franchise.

Something like that. I ended up just going with the options given. Stacked year! Only went with games I actually have experience with. As you can see, I'm not a fan of certain mega-popular PC games.
