As many of us already know, there is an issue where if you trade an ENG version of the shiny Ula'ula Tapu Bulu, the OT name which change from Ula'ula to something else. But not everyone may know exactly why this issue occurs so I thought I'd explain it here. And I'm posting this on the trading board since this info applies most to those who want to trade it.

Basically, the issue is that whoever wrote the OT name Ula'ula used the wrong apostrophe. The apostrophe it uses is not the same one as the one available in the in-game keyboard. So when trading Tapu Bulu, its name changes to either "Sun." or "Moon.".

https://i.imgtc.com/AkeCl5Y.jpg
https://i.imgtc.com/7ir9skM.jpg
https://i.imgtc.com/NSConK7.jpg

The first picture is how the OT name should currently look on any legitimate ENG shiny Tapu Bulu. The third picture is how it looks after I traded it from Ultra Moon to Ultra Sun. And the second picture is a Tapu Bulu who's OT name I edited by changing the apostrophe to the one available in the in-game keyboard. This picture was taken after trading it from Ultra Moon to Ultra Sun meaning that the OT name is "fixed" and didn't change after trading. However, if you compare the first and second images you'll see that the apostrophes do look different.

In game, if you open you're Pokedex you can see the name of the four islands of Alola. Here you can see the correct apostrophe used in "Ula'ula" which is the same one as in the second image above. The apostrophe used in the first image is used in Pokedex entries for Pokemons' heights (I don't know where else it's used). So the edited Tapu Bulu's OT name is the correct spelling of Ula'ula while the legitimate Tapu Bulu's OT name is a typo. The edited Tapu Bulu can be traded without changing its OT name. However this does not change the fact that it's technically not legitimate since it's been altered which is why I'm not going to trade mine, at least not until we know for sure whether or not they'll actually do something about this.

I'm sure everyone wants a fix for this. But there's really only two solutions for this. First is for them to update the game so that doesn't change the OT name when trading, but I doubt they'd introduce a whole update just for this. And second is for them to redistribute this Pokemon but with the correct OT name. This solution is more likely. This is because about 2 years ago the same issue happened with the Rally Mew event where they accidentally used the wrong star symbol in the OT name. However, apparently it took them 9 hours to redo the distribution. It's been several days since they've distributed this Tapu Bulu and there's no word on whether or not they'll fix it. We'll just have to wait and see if they do anything about it. And as for the Tapu Bulus that have already been redeemed, I'm pretty sure it'll be near impossible for them to fix those.

tl;dr The OT name has a typo in which they used the wrong apostrophe. When trading, it'll change it to either "Sun." or "Moon.". Changing the apostrophe to the correct one fixes this issue.

Congrats for posting this! We've been talking about this all in CEAL too. You don't have to manually edit the apostrophe, it's literally a PKHeX autosave issue lol. When you load the first picture into PKHeX, resave it and bring it back in game, it turns into the second picture.

Yeah I noticed it did that when I tried making clones of the original. I made several clones and manually edited only one of them, but all of them except the original had the altered OT name. It seems PKHeX reads both apostrophes as the same symbol but writes it as the second one. So I used Powersaves to make clones of the original so I could get a copy of the glitched OT Tapu Bulu.

Okay I'll start off saying I spent better part of 8+ hours testing this . There is 3 ways to determine which OT you will get and it is a combo of both game claimed and game receiving. If you want the OT Sun. in the various languages you have 2 options. Redeem it in Ultra Sun as all languages are locked to Sun. OT or redeem it Ultra Moon and trade it to Sun or Moon as both those games will give Sun. OT on an Ultra Moon redeemed Bulu. If you want Moon OT in any of the various languages you only have one option you have to redeem it in a Ultra Moon game and trade it to either Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon as both results in Moon. OT. The only exception to this rule is Ultra Moon redeemed KOR Bulu cause its OT is dynamic and not static and based on this formula US/UM = 문 OT and S/M = 썬 OT. If you trade 문 OT to Sun or Moon it will become 썬 OT and vice versa. (Initial test on FRE/SPA (HKTW Console Needed) show they follow the same pattern as the other 7 Languages on Ultra Moon (KOR UM Bulu is a Unique Freak of Nature) and same as all Languages on Ultra Sun.

This whole thing makes me wonder, will the games recognise the traded versions with Sun or Moon OTs as legal, seeing as how it's technically an incorrect OT for the event.
It will be strange if an illegitimate (edited fix) mon is more legal than a legitimate traded one.

All this over an apostrophe. That's so crazy.

But the first and second pictures are equal towards OT of bulu.

The first picture has an apostrophe that will glitch when it's traded. But the second picture has an apostrophe that is accepted by the game (and is the correct one used for Ula'ula Island), so it won't glitch when it's traded.
