List idea: The Top 10 Character Creators

I'd argue that some of these character creators go too far with the level of customization they allow for, which might sound strange, but I think for these things it's important to strike a good balance between how unique you can make your person look and the amount of time it takes to get a good result. Black Desert, for example, looks like you can get lost in the CC and spend more time on it than you will for the game's first act.

It can be overwhelming for some people, maybe.
But options are never a bad thing.
There are people who play BDO for the character creator alone, and spend their time making presets for the public "beauty album".
Those who don't want to spend that time can just download one of said presets and get on with it.
Don't see a reason to limit either one. 🤷🏼‍♀

There are also those who spend hours upon hours composing music for the Shai to play. It adds nothing of ingame value, but it's still a nice feature to have.

"Freeform" has nothing to do with cosmetics. That only relates to the gameplay abilities.

I heavily disagree. Options are never a bad thing. You can get a good result just by using a preset, or by hitting the randomize button; it's not like a game starts you off with a blank slate and you have to craft every aspect from the ground up.

Playstation Home had a pretty good avatar creation set-up.

I think that character creator’s are not that dark of an order. Pogonophobia, the hatred of beards, helps us clunk into a Chunk of ultimacy.

Demon's Souls is an infamous video game that was part of the birth of the Souls genre. But being as old as it was, the graphics were never that great despite the character customization that was always available. In the PS5 remake, they were able to utilize new tools to create a better experience when demon killing. This is easily one of the best character creators in its genre, and by a long shot.
