I noticed that a lot of visual novel recommendations tend to be from 2000 to 2010. Stuff like Umineko, Song of Saya, Majikoi, Steins;Gate, etc. Anyone have some recommendations for newer, more modern visual novels? Or have they not really lived up to the classics?

Root Double -Before Crime * After Days-
Chaos;Child
The House in Fata Morgana

The 3 above are ones that I definitely recommend.

I have heard good things from many other VNs from 2011 onward (like Raging Loop, YOU and ME and HER: A Love Story, Aokana, Summer Pockets, Seabed, AI: The Somnium Files, etc.), but I unfortunately have not played them.

428
Baldr Sky

I like 428 a good deal more.

Higurashi re-TL finished recently. Not sure if you ever played that.

Are VNs even worth putting the time into?
Serious question.

I mean that's a strange question to ask, it's like asking if books or anime are worth putting time into. There's such a wide variety of styles and genres in the visual novel format that you'll almost assuredly find something you like.

Aiyoku no Eustia I wasn't personally into, but some people like it a lot.

Steins;Gate 0 is good s*** if you haven't gotten to that yet. Better than Chaos;Child imo.

I've played Flower, Sun and Rain on PS2 & Silver Case before.
Do those count?

It's no secret that the VN industry has seen better days. Not just translations, but in JP too.

You rarely see VN to anime adaptations anymore either.

Summer Pockets (And it's update released SP:Reflection Blue) was my favorite VN last year.
It's not perfect but it's still very good that I immediately have to go for RB version.

The original game got translate and is avaialabe on Stream and it's not expensive either.
It's also seem to get Anime adaption soon (and hopefully they don't screwed it's up again.)
Playing: Granblue Fantasy, Tales of the Rays, Cinderella Girls Starlight Stage
