Even in fiction, to state something, intentionally, that is not true is a lie.

You can’t prove that’s what they’re doing. Maybe the writers are just completely incompetent and liberally change things as they go.

I don't hold grudges. Let's vehemently argue today and casually have a beer together tomorrow.

Hey good on you son. I dig it.

btw character statements are fine when they’re observational and not speculative.

What is the point of writing characters to say something, just for it to be flat out WRONG or contradicted within 1 chapter of each other? Shin's statement about Vegito = Beerus? Flat out wrong. Goku's statement about Broly > Beerus? Unless Base Gogeta from that movie is still stronger than Current arc SSBE Vegeta then that statement is flat out wrong as well. Jiren surpassing his own god of destruction? Flat out wrong, as we saw that Belmond was not significantly weaker than beerus at all. What was the point in making these statements just for them to be wrong and contradicted later?

Mostly lack of creativity on how to make new villains seem like a credible threat and hyping them up

Everyone keeps getting compared to Beerus, but then they decide they need to keep Beerus relevant, so you end up with a complete mess because whatever people say is proven wrong or retconned a few chapters after

tl;dr s*** writing

an observational character statement would be like

”he’s gotten stronger. He’s moving faster than light speed now.”

or

“his energy projections are impressive; that blast is stronger than anything Martian Manhunter has demonstrated.”

speculative would be like

“he’s so durable - he might be able to take a punch from Superman”

or

”you’re tough! Maybe even tougher than Beerus-dama”
