Does anybody know who used to host the completion site? The domain isn't hosted anymore, but I wonder how close it is to being completed. It would be nice to have it finished.

Devin used to host the NES completion project site, so you can ask him for more information about it.

If you want a general idea on how many games are left in the project, you can try an advanced search on gamefaqs with the link below. Search under the platform "NES", content as "Does not have one or more completed FAQs", and region as "released in Any Region". You can also search under the console "Famicom Disk System", since the project includes those games as well.

Most of the games that are left are Famicom, FDS, and Homebrew games.

You can actually go to the Contribute tab at the top of GameFAQs, click the My Contributions tab at the top, then click the FAQs link on the right. Scroll down to NES and you can see the completion by region and in total. This will also show you the completion rate for every system.

I still have the pages for the Completion Project site. I guess Retro Nintendo decided they didn't want to host it anymore, and there wasn't much activity for quite a while so I haven't done anything with it since. I may reupload it at some point.

It's tough to say whether the project will ever be finished. Especially since all these homebrew games are being added to the DB and "official" releases from the last year or so...

I personally don't agree with putting homebrew games on GameFAQs but to each their own. From that list, I can recommend these games that are readily available and don't require knowing Japanese:

After Burner II - Scrolling Shooter

Lizard - Homebrew that you can actually buy for $10 on Steam vs the $40 NES cartridge like most other homebrews that obviously require a NES to run.

Nomolis: Storming the Catsle - Pretty straightforward platformer that is readily available.

Somari the Adventurer - Another straightforward platformer that is readily available.

And that's about it. The rest can get pretty pricey to obtain and/or require knowing Japanese to beat. Even then, I know some of these games are super confusing. There are obviously some writers here that can read Japanese yet some games still aren't completed because they're so confusing.

You guys have done a great job with the Nes completion project but what about the other consoles like Sega, GB and other 4-5th enerations consoles?
There is a GB completion project on this board but it's unfortunately pretty dead. I don't think guide writing is as popular as it once was and writing for classic games is even less popular.

Well, I still enjoy old classics. Maybe I'll pick out some old games and write for one.

I am still around for talking about game specifics if anyone is tackling something I've tried before.
