I really wanted to watch a Madcap Comedy last night but couldn't talk Katie into Blazing Saddles, since it seemed like the racism stuff would hit unusually heavily. Instead we watched Your Highness, which was a new madcap comedy but is not a good movie.
What's with that? Why are the good madcap comedies all mad old, and the mediocre ones are pretty bad. To that end, I will outline a tier list within the next 90 seconds because I have to get on a conference call:
AAA Airplane Naked Gun Naked Gun 2 1/2 Life of Bryan Holy Grail Blazing Saddles History of the World Part I
AA Kentucky Fried Movie The Meaning of Life Naked Gun 33 1/3 Eurotrip Wedding Crashers Space Balls
A Airplane 2: The Sequel which admittedly I haven't super watched Forgetting Sarah Marshall and also Get Him to the Greek I guess One of the Scary Movies but I forget which one Sausage Party Bee Movie
Tier Not That Good Upon Further Rewatches Robin Hood: Men in Tights Most of the Kevin Smith movies but especially Zach and Miri Make a Porno yeesh
Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both. -Mimir
I see. Interesting. A lot of Monty Python clearly qualifies, even the ones with the most coherent plots, like Life of Brian, but on the subject of Kevin Smith, I would argue that Clerks is somewhat more focused on plot and characterization.
