I can't work from home! I get maybe an hour or two of work done most days.

My director and my direct supervisor came around on the "it's not working from home, it's making the best of a global pandemic" mindset about a month ago. It's one of those things where it's like, yeah, that's probably correct, but it also doesn't help me a lot when there are still a lot of things that are expected to get done.

I probably get somewhere between 2-4 actually useful and productive hours of work done in a day, skewing toward the 4 end only when I have an extremely well defined task in front of me that I can power through. An example of that would be the advertising and design stuff I had to do two or three weeks ago, or the spreadsheet and data sorting stuff I had to do last week.

For me it's been less about the actual work content as much as it has been about really trying to separate out my work world from my home world, which is very difficult when I've been doing work at my computer desk sitting only a handful of feet away from my bed.

I absolutely love working from home. We're going to be doing it at least through July 4th weekend. Over $400 a month in just travel expenses gone, 3 hours a day back into my life. I'm eating less, exercising more (quality vs quantity at this point though). And, to top it off, my job function hasn't changed in the slightest.

I really can't complain, but I know I am waaaaaaayyy more the exception than the norm

Yeah, it's definitely a lot harder to focus in this situation. But it also means I've got a lot more time to troubleshoot my own focus problems and the effects of say...caffeine on my body. I've become much more aware of the way caffeine disrupts my mood and energy levels, and have basically quit drinking coffee.

I completely crapped out uh... I dunno two memory-cycles ago and just didn't do anything for a week. That was fine. I now have 3-4 fairly productive days per week. So that's cool.

I don't know whether that work is any good, but I do a bunch of it. Feelin' pretttttttttty erratic.
Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.

Alex, are you finding your productivity diminished because you have less motivation at home, or do you have less motivation because it's harder for you to be productive at home?

I think it started as "being home sucks and I hate that battle" but devolved into "I don't really HAVE to do anything, so... maybe I won't?"

Also I'm in a new job and it's been totally demotivating to just do projects with no deadlines
