An alarm went off on Dung's phone for less than 5 seconds. I asked him, "Why does that sound like the music from Professor Layton?" He responds "I don't know what you're talking about," so I say "Oh, it actually IS from Layton! You're such a nerd." In which a conversation ensues about who's the bigger nerd, me because I recognized it with no context, or him for choosing it to begin with.

I have no answer for you, but I have a parallel story to add to your evidence base.

In high school, a girl asked a question in our calculus class and after the teacher finished reexplaining it, the girl was able to explain it again on her own.

The teacher then said, "I think she's got it!" like from My Fair Lady.

I asked, "Did you just quote My Fair Lady?"

And my teacher responded, "Yes, and you recognized it. Which means... you're a nerd."

To this day I'm not sure how I feel about his assessment of the situation.
