https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanesco_broccoli

I was in Portland with a few friends to watch another friend perform at a benefit for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, but before the show we had some time to explore so we hit up a farmer's market. The four of us had never seen this vegetable before but we agreed that it looked almost alien. After being really curious about it we asked one of the vendors what it was and she proceeded to explain to us that it was a vegetable similar to cauliflower or broccoli like we were complete idiots.

I've literally never seen one before this past Saturday. I guess I was under the impression that I would have already seen most vegetables that would be sold in a store, supermarket, or farmer's market having experience shopping at them for many, many years now, but now I know that is not the case.

Self-similar vegetables are trippy.

I also had never seen or heard of that before. I'd eat it I guess? With oil and garlic and lemon?

Also is anyone else finding this site completely unusable on a mobile device because that one xbone ad pops up for every. single. page.?
Willis, it seems like every other time you post, I need to look up a word that's in the OED or Urban Dictionary but not both.

It looks pretty cool.

But yeah, there's always new stuff to see/being grown. The market is always expanding.

Actually Kodi you were one of the first people I thought of when I saw it because of the repeating fractal pattern. I thought you'd find it interesting.

Apparently the flavor of the vegetable is similar to cauliflower but not as "harsh," whatever that means. The lady told us it could be roasted, pan cooked, or otherwise prepared in a large variety of ways.

I could think of a few words to describe cauliflower, but "harsh" is not one of them...

I think I'd be a bit pressed to come up with a few words for cauliflower.

I tried Summer Garlic over the summer. (I think summer? The kind that isn't dried.) It was like garlic in most respects, but not as harsh.

I saw someone post a picture of a romanesco they bought on Twitter today. They said they turned it into soup, thus making Mandelbroth.
