Motoi Sakuraba is brilliant. Unquestionably one of the most distinct, original, and just plain talented composers in the business. I've yet to find anything by him as brilliant as his Shining the Holy Ark soundtrack (the SF3 soundtrack was such a disappointment), but his music for Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean is the highlight of an otherwise ill-conceived game.

You killed Rilix before the two Evil Spirits? Yeah, sounds like you're quite a bit overleveled.

Money is never a real problem in the game, even when you don't do any grinding.

That game has actually made it onto my Need-To-Buy list (looks beautiful, has to do with an ocean (love that setting... which is why I love Chrono Cross, and it's super cheap these days!).

Well, to be fair I just focused on Rilix and pounded on her hard until she died. Probably the wrong tactic against her since doing that allowed for the Evil Spirits to both case Freeze Lvl3 on me. But yeah after she was out of the way the Spirits were destroyed rather quickly.

I remember when I was younger thinking everything cost way too much in the shops. This playthrough I've had no problem with money until I just recently ran out. But I'm making a bunch back now so I don't see it being much of an issue.

Welp, final post probably *sad*

Beat it last night. Final battle was too easy. I specifically made sure NOT to over-level my characters too much (like level 50 or 99 or something crazy like some people do) but it didn't matter. I only leveled my characters up to the point where they all leaned every magic spell the could (so around level 30 tops).

But that Pixie Bell just walloped the bosses. After the third time using it, I simply decided to go the rest of the battle without it (it hadn't cracked or anything, amazingly). That, coupled with Doyle's Mithril Claw, Arthur's Inferno spell, and Akane/Lisa/Melody able to cast Aura/Prayer to keep everyone's HP high... it just didn't allow the bosses to have much of a chance. Oh, and don't forget casting Rodi's Ferocity spell on Arthur... yikes. So powerful! And last but not least, casting Support on everyone.

Anyways, fantastic game. This will be my final time playing it though. One playthrough in 1997, and one final playthrough in 2014. Now it will just sit in its case in my collection for me to look at every once in awhile. Sad to think about, really. Glad I gave my money to Sega when I purchased this game upon its release.

Needs a remake on 3DS or something.

I will respond if somebody comments, but if not, hopefully it will head to the archives forevermore.

Lol

It's dead nowadays, but used to have a nice following. Still has some good topics archived though. Better luck to be had at the Ark board at ShiningForceCentral.com

Well, I actually put my copy in and played through the first area . . . . twice.

After I got back outside the first time, I found a Leprechaun, went down the hill and the game gave me a black screen (couldn't load the next area). My disc looks nearly perfect so I cleaned my laser lens and stuff, tried again and this time it went black as I tried to step outside. :(

I've had issues on and off before with my Saturn, so I don't think it is my disc because I have other games it occasionally has problems with so I'm considering replacing my Saturn (it did glitch out a couple times during Panzer Dragoon Saga, but only lost a lot of work once I think). I may decide to start Albert Odyssey in the meantime or try to actually finish Panzer Dragoon Zwei.

Shamrock, there's a fan mod for Holy Ark, dubbed Hard Mode. When I get time I'll get the Saturn out and give it a go. Nothing quite like the atmosphere of a hard as nails dungeon crawler. Hope it's even harder than Dungeon Master!

edit - I originally played the Japanese Holy Ark and Rodi's weapon would insta-kill all enemies at for, say, the first third-to-half of the game. Thankfully this isn't in the English versions, so their difficulty made them more fun to play.

aerosmith5 - I would look into picking up a replacement Saturn console then. No point in continuing the risk of using that console if it possibly keeps losing your saves!

I... I have a feeling it would be too hard for me lol. It takes some work and understanding of the game to get to the point where I did, where it ends up practically being a cakewalk, but since that was the first time the game has ever been somewhat "easy" for me I think I'll stop right there and enjoy my completion of this game! I'm not big on dungeon crawlers in the first place, so if it became really difficult I'd probably end up disliking it. Pansy gamer style. I want my final memories of StHA to be good ones where it was an enjoyable romp, not feelings of frustration and constant grinding.

I know that later in the game you can get the Kusanagi weapon for Rodi and Akane (dropped by Spike Dragon) that ends up doing instant kills a lot of the time, but I specifically decided NOT to farm for one against the Spike Dragons because it would have made the game even easier. Maybe the weapon you're talking about is similar to the Kusanagi?

Whoops, I forgot about this thread and hadn't been checking for updates! Shamrock99, glad to hear you made it all the way through. If you're not at all tempted to revisit the game, why not sell it? Somebody else might be looking forward to enjoying it.

Interesting. I've long had a copy of the Japanese version of the game, but have yet to get around to playing it for any considerable length of time. I look forward to checking this out.

Hell no! Regardless of whether I ever play the game again or not, I bought the game brand new for $50 when it was released and it's officially mine, to be part of my collection forever. The game isn't rare so there are plenty of copies available for sale on eBay if someone wants to try the game out.
