new update to the Content Differences doc. did a dig into the sf2 demo and found something incredibly interesting. the sf2 demo uses the same executable as sf1, with obvious changes to it, but it's a big deal to directly confirm that sf2 is directly based on sf1. moreover, sf2 is based off of the american version of sf1.

anyway, found proof of 3 new builds. 2/7/97, 3/28/97, and 1/12/98. the 98 build was made by sonoda for the american version one week before it was completed.

I've decided I wanna do something more substantial than archive tweets. I'm gonna reconstruct what the game could have looked like on March 25th, 1997, AKA around with the demo in FFTactics was completed. You can read more here: https://www.ffvdgames.com/community/postid/25/

Just added a whole slew of new scans from magazines I recently bought. There are 4 pages from Famitsu PS 10/1996, and 42 pages worth of prerelease screenshots from the Famitsu Official Player's Guide, which was published on August 15, 1997. It had so many prerelease screenshots that I had to give it its own section on the website. Almost every single screenshot is brand new, others aren't know but are now in a higher resolution. There are even interviews from 6 devs--Kawazu, Tonooka, Ishii, Takai, Tsuda, and Kenji Ito--which have yet to be translated.

Would love to contribute but I only started playing this game recently thanks to the remaster. I've owned the actual copies since the day they came out though... still have them with me. Just never played them for decades for some reason. The game is fantastic.

I hope you luck in your project. Maybe one of my friends know something so I'll try asking them. I'll be supporting from Omble =D

I completely forgot to add this to this thread: I figured out how to load custom arenas in the remaster, which got me to THIS ARENA:

This arena was part of a cave area that was featured in the TGS 1996 demo. For some reason, it's been included with the main gnome cave arena inside the remaster. My "recreation" of it isn't perfect due to the foreground having an upper and lower part, whereas the game only expects a lower part. It's super nice to finally have a piece of this demo properly preserved, albeit in a roundabout way.

I updated the Content Differences document with some of my findings after a second more detailed watch of the Game Catalog 2 coverage for TGS '96 and '97 Spring. Odds are, there was no demo featured at TGS '96 as I believe they were only using Square's Preview at this event, but I can't say for certain.

There was most certainly a demo at TGS '97 Spring, however. That demo was probably the same as the FFTactics demo, but with all 7 protagonists available to play as. The most interesting thing I saw amongst the footage at Square's booth was that Shuzer Base was available to explore, with the footage showcasing a party with Lute and White Rose in it. Interpret that as you wish. This was also where the game's delay to July was officially announced, meaning that Kawazu & co. for sure filed for an extension in March.

I also cleaned up the Development section a little bit. If there are any other sections you guys would like to get cleaned and polished, please let me know.
