Congrats on beating Q2 on hard! (Only 9 years late... :P)
It's far harder than the PC version IMO, especially because you can't save powerups for when you'll need them: There is no inventory system. But hey, I like that, means I have to actually use my brain instead of using Quad Damage + Invulnerability + BFG10K.
As for games that I practically gave up on, Mega Man III on the GameBoy tops my list. Finding the first four levels and the mid-game boss easy, I figured the rest of the game would pretty much follow suit.
Wrong. The next four were just cruel. After a couple of days work beating them, I thought nothing would stop me beating the game that same day.
Wrong again. A certain boss (Punk) beat the **** out of me before I knew what was happening. I didn't touch the cart again for almost two weeks, for fear of being owned so ridiculously again.
Then I eventually tried again, and soundly kicked his ass on my first attempt that day.
But no, my saga couldn't end there! The frigging end level was so ridiculously long and full of enemies, I got turned to scrap before even getting halfway!!
Gave up. For a month.
THEN, and only then did I finally beat the game, after a few hours of hair-tearing, re-playing earlier levels for equipment/lives, and most annoyingly, one case of drained batteries. And for what? A pretty crappy ending, that's what.
Mega Man III. You rock-hard, unforgiving bastard. I hate you.

pawn75- that sounds like the crappiest situation possible. 2 points and you need 100,000? I know what I'd do with THAT game. I'll give you a hint- the trash comes on Tuesday :)
Recoome_is_god- I have a good excuse why I didn't play Quake II 9 years ago- back then I didn't care about ANY thing. I was going through that silly teenage phase. It even included not caring about video games. That's how bad it gotten! But, that was then, and we grow out of such things. Unless I don't get any sleep the night before, then I'm back to not caring again :)
As for Mega Man III, I played the NES version, and only managed to beat one level. It had bees flying at you in sworms. Forget the name of that level. I thought it was extremely hard and never returned to it since.
Quake II- where darkness takes over your soul.
No, thats the Smackdown 2 board. Quake 2 is where you get to kill stuff good.
yup you got that right! shootin', killin', and shootin' some more. it never ends! until mission 5 that is :)
I finally did it!! I got an 80gig backwards compatible PS3!!!! Sold my non-compatible 40 gig to my step-father for $250, which is always good. Got $45 for my PS2. New machine makes PS1 and 2 games look much sharper than they did before.
your step father plays video games? mine used to (my real dad I mean) but he stopped 10 years ago, when his new girlfriend said video games are for children, and men in relationships shouldn't be allowed to play video games anymore, since they have women in their lives to keep them company instead.
anyway, glad you're happy about the PS3. just hope it doesn't break suddenly :)
... why did you have to curse me?
oh no, really? it broke already? DAMN YOU SONY!!!!!!!!
That's real anger too. DAMN THEM!
