I honestly think the random encounters themselves is an incredibly bad idea, I mean who likes getting disturbed by some unavoidable battles all the time when you're busy exploring?
That's like having a thunderstorm every fifth minute when you're trying to get a tan.

after playing FF13, random encounters and loading times are pissing me off. This is the first time I played FF9, so yeah.

Still, the game as a whole is good. After playing FF7 and FF8's horrendous 3-person-limit, I'm glad to have the option of 4 characters in 3D.

I never thought it was too slow unless you have less than three characters in your party like in the beginning bits. FFXIII felt slow with two characters too.
