So, at the final boss fight poor Ethan is on the verge of death but the cavalry arrives, and in true classic RE fashion, they throw him a weapon to kill the abomination. A gun called "Albert-01". Ethan shoots the monster, the soldiers descend from the helicopters, and oh surprise!! They were led by the one and only Chris Redfield, and shortly afterwards they extract Ethan in an UMBRELLA marked chopper. Weird.

Then I play "Not a Hero", where they say that Chris is still with the BSAA, but is in a sort of joint operation with former Umbrella personnel who wish to "clean" the Umbrella name by basically becoming an anti B.O.W. organization.

And then the "Albert" name shows up again, Chris' pistol and shotgun are also named after his biggest foe Albert Wesker!!

Considered how despised Wesker was, is disturbing how Umbrella, or Chris are so hellbent in preserving his memory.
Honor above everything.

Maybe Umbrella provided Chris with the armaments for the mission? That would certainly make the "new" Umbrella look a little more questionable, but Umbrella being shady seems more likely than Chris memorializing Wesker.

Although the answer is that they were probably just fanservice names.

Your looking at it the wrong way, the pistol being named "Albert" makes sense, Wesker was all about his BOWs killing people and the STARS teams, with the pistol it is used to kill BOWs. The gun name is one last "f*** you" to Wesker's dream of using BOWs to dominate the world, instead the gun is used to destroy any and all BOWs for a reformed Umbrella, and used by Chris himself.

Very interesting perspective.

Iirc Wesker and Chris uses to be best bud before all the s*** happened. Naming his weapons after his best bud and worst nemesis is kinda poetic don't ya think? Also i feel it's supposed to be some sort of reminder to Chris that his fight is far from over. Like Wesker basically started Chris's involvement in the fight against bio terrorism. Wesker might be gone for good now(?), but there are still other people who abused bio weapon.
What an ass...

Point is, there's alot of ways to look at it, but ultimately capcoms reason was probably just a shout out to the series biggest foe. Just a fanservice.
