Just a quick question. If I buy 2 nintendo switch's, one for each of my sons, and use the same account on each, am I able to play digital games on both consoles?

That is to say, can I purchase mario kart 8 and download and play it on both consoles? I bought the first switch a year ago and bought lots of digital games. Now that my other son is old enough I bought him his switch and regret not buying physical digital games so they can pass the cartridges back and forth.

Reading Nintendo's FAQ's it seems possible.

https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22467/~/nintendo-accounts-on-nintendo-switch-%28faq%29

but with the whole 'primary console' thing, it gives me the impression that whenever I want to play a game I downloaded on another console I have to switch the "primary console" designation which seems like a huge hassle. Probably insurmountable for a 4 and 7 year old.

anyone have any luck or experience with this?

I'm pretty sure you would have to switch the Primary console each time, as otherwise it would be trivial to use a single copy of a game across multiple Switches.

I figured. Would be to easy to scam the system I suppose. Just figured I'd ask.

Really wish I bought only physical games. darn.

Make one console the primary console for your account and every account on that switch can play the game you downloaded. On the 2nd switch your account can still play the game, but any other account will not be able to.

I haven’t tried it, but that’s how it works if you want to share downloaded games. So you can definitely play the game on both switches if you do it like that. On your primary console, any account can play the digital games you downloaded. On the secondary console only your account can play the digital games you downloaded. You don’t have to swap the primary designation back & forth.
