I know the lore has evolved to call the trench coat-wearing tyrant from RE2 "Mr. X", but when did he first officially get this name? I feel like it was sometime after the original RE2, because I remember it being very vague and he did not have a name in the game at that time.

Am I wrong? Any RE lore experts able to chime in?

The strategy guide that came out when the game did.

Edit: This one to be exact.

Atleast thats the first time I saw it, then it was the Toy Biz figures for the game, then S.D. Perry.

When your name is finally drawn, I'll be happy that you're gone. Ash to Ashes, Dust to Dust.

I don't think it's ever technically been official, but everyone used it from the strategy guide, so it just stuck. It's like how some people end up with a nickname in high school, or the military, there's nothing legal, but it's how everyone knows them.

He's never called Mr. X in-game as far as I know, but there was a lot of related merchandise that referred to him by that name. I believe the best example is an officially-licenced action figure that clearly has "Mr. X" printed on the box.

He's never had that name in the games. He's just a T-103 Tyrant is all.

That's incorrect, the Versus Guide didn't name him Mr X. You're confusing that with the Brady Games guide.
