I used to be against multiplayer RPGs until I started playing some with friends.
If anyone here hasn't, you're sorely missing out. A multiplayer FFVII Remake, especially with potentially more Materia loadouts and character customization, would be damn amazing.

For PvP yeah, but for a PvE campaign centered game like FFVIIR or Tales? It hardly ever does, if at all.
I've tried multiplayer RPGs. Gimmicky at best.

Since we're stating the obvious, I would do well to inform you that the Earth is round.

I really don't think it is made for it. The stagger system would get abused by multiple players (making enemies bigger sponges wouldn't be a good response) and there isn't a ton of gameplay for a single player. I'd see people trying it for the novelty and then quitting quickly.

You could probably craft something from the ground up that works if you wanted. Could be something with more substantive and continuous gameplay, like a tower climber where you get to do a build for your individual character. Could probably rebalance the battle system to be wave-based.

Even Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2?
A 7empest must be just that.

As it is, probably not. If they made a side mode like RE's Mercenaries that was built for it? I can see it. Might be interesting. Why stop at 3 though. Go for all 4.

The 2 most successful FF games are multiplayer though.

And this is why changing a franchise to appeal to causals is a bad business model. Not everything needs to be multiplayer. See Mass Effect 3 for how using game assets for multiplayer effects the progression of a single player IP

What exactly makes multiplayer "casual"? It takes way more skill to play in a multiplayer environment and multiplayer games tend to have way more detailed meta/postgame content. You're also interacting with other people? I didn't know being apart of society makes you casual.
