I wish Barret would be as vaible as Aerith, but as far i can tell with a solid Setup Aerith is downright better than Barret as a Long Range-Support Fighter.

My go to Setuo for Aerith is: Silverstaff/Force Bracelet(4 Materisslots)/Pleatnium Earing: Magnify+Healing, 2xHP Up,2xMP Up, Fire, Thunder and Magic Up.

With Soul Drain I can heal MP, with (fire)-aga spells i can deal hugh Damage/Stagger enemies, with Magnify Curaga i can heal around 6-7K HP. All for 1 ATB-Bar. So I Have great Long Range Damge, Great Party Heal for praticaly no costs. (Party Wipes can be survived in worst Case with Reprive).

So my Question is how can I build Barret that hos is as vaible as Aerith?. Big Bertha Livesaver/Chakra/Steeskin costs a lot of ATB (to be fair on average Barret builds ATB faster than Aerith). Maybe with Magnify+Barrier (Big Bertha has Trade Off+Enffble Ring). Sure Berrat could probaly also heal with Pray (2 ATB Bars for what 2K HP Healing, compared to Aeriths Magnify+Healing for 7k Healing?).

I won't say that Aerith is better in Everything than Barret, but as far i can tell Aerith look overall much more wellrounded/Vaible than Barret as Long Range/Support Fighter. Maybe someone can give me an in depth explanation if and why Barret cloud/is a vaible as Aerith. Thanks in advanced

When Barret is available and Aeris isn't, you should use Barret.

When Aeris is available and Barret isn't, you should use Aeris.

You don't get to choose your party.

There's also no guarantee you'll be able to choose in future instalments so I wouldn't get hung up on it right now.

If you're talking about the vr sims then it's still Aeris every time, because magic is OP and she is the strongest magic user.

Well, Barrett is more of a powerhouse tank than Aerith. I don't think they're really comparable other than being long range characters, they're just good for different things. Steel skin and lifesaver are great tanking skills. Plus once you command him, he can fill his ATB like a monster - whenever I was playing him, it felt like I never ran out of bars for skills; overcharge fills like a whole bar whenever it's used, and his normal gunning attack fills it up pretty quick. And I think it might be a matter of build, as I mainly made Aerith my go to powerhouse mage (I barely ever took out the Mythril Staff once every skill was learned), but Barrett always worked better for me as physical long-range fighter - like battling Leviathan, for example.

But when you get to choose, Aerith is usually the better choice mainly because of her magic buffs. Although in the big battles (i.e., top secrets) the party that worked better for me was having both, ditching Tifa.

Barret can tank the best, so obviously is better if he has agro. Also maximum fury does massive damage, and you can easily trigger it then use other chars. And it doesn't take MP which matters on hard.

There's 3 reasons, not sure if you wanted 10. For 3 team parties in the simulator, the best team is Cloud/Barret/Aerith.

Barret can move while shooting and doesn't get animation locked (unless he's using overcharge) so he can stop shooting and block faster. He also deals physical ranged damage whereas I think Aeris is pretty much 100% magic damage, so against things that aren't vulnerable or even immune to magic Aeris does no damage. He has naturally higher HP and defensive stats as well, I think? He's very hard to bring down.

Honestly I run him as more magey than physical and I've never had issues on hard mode. Pray is around 3k party healing for one materia slot and with the speed he builds ATB (especially with haste) it's not hard to have it up when needed. It also costs 0 MP. 99% of fights magnify + curaga is massive overheal.

Aeris probably does have a better limit break and if you're looking for pure magic and spell damage, you won't find better. They're both good characters, really. Barret is probably more of a defensive ranged specialist and Aeris is probably more offensive. You can also get a third offensive limit break if you go with Barret over Aeris, but her second limit break is amazing too.

I wouldn't definitely say use one over the other all the time. Mostly it's just personal preference and anything you can do with one you could do with the other, except when the story makes you use a certain party (which to be fair is a LOT of the time outside the combat simulator/arena).

On hard mode where you have to budget MP and can't just spam aga spells Aerith seems less useful to me
Being able to pray fast can on hard mode can also be useful
Hackers win at games but they still lose at life, i used to hate them but then i realized they have to cheat so now i just feel sorry for them.

Barret is the lowest maintenance character in the game. Extremely effective, always with little resources required. The other 3 characters feel glass cannon like in comparison to Barret where in if they don't get to do what they are "good" at, they don't offer much to the party, but it's really hard for Barret to not be effective at any time even if he doesn't hit peak DPS that the others do.

I personally kicked Cloud off the team for high level coliseum fights... he just seemed like the least useful of the 4 party members to me.

Barrett's triangle attack synergies really well with how for this game's ATB system revolves around swapping characters. Whenever you swap back to him you can use it to get him 2 gauges to use however you want, including his strong physical attacks.

Aerith's magic is crazy strong and she can drain MP making it so she can spam it.

I mean does it matter outside of combat simulations?
If you play things for efficiency then any game where the characters are unique... there will be tiers.

If the game didn't make it so easy to avoid damage and for one on one fights, make it easy to cancel enemy actions, then Barret would be amazing. He is amazing when you;re getting a hang of playing the game well as he shines as a Tank.

His build variety makes him more fun than Aerith imo. All she had going for her imo was using ATB ward to try creating some atb positive loops. Otherwise her ability list is kinda plain.
I'm actually pretty surprised that at least one of her staffs wasn't made as a melee weapon. I thought it would be the Bladed Staff
