Read my criteria properly. Thank you.

It has a anime art style, Is a rpg made in Japan and is full of the same JRPG stuff most JRPGs are full of

Have you even played the games or just the type to label something you haven't tried?

If you check my PSN (Takiowns), you will know if I played Disgaea or not.

Disgaea is a Turn-Based Strategy game. End of talk. Thank you.

It's always funny to see new completely made up definitions for jrpgs, now we have the "semi-pause" or "pause" as defining characteristic, lmao 🙄

JRPG criteria:

1- Must be made in Japan, it's what the ****ing J stands for
2- Must be anime-style (characters, places, etc.)
3- Must have the option to pause or semi-pause during combat to select commands
4- Must have some kind of a world map and exploration

Examples of games NOT meeting the criteria:

  • Souls, because they violate points #2 and #3
  • FFXV and FF7R, because they violate point #2
  • The Witcher 3, because it violates points #1, #2, and #3
  • Disgaea, because it violates point #4

A game MUST meet all these criteria to be classified as a JRPG. The end.

They are defining characteristics indeed. The term "role-play" must involve some kind of decisions making "role to play" and various outcomes as a result, in battle or outside battle.

Final Fantasy VIII, X, and XII are definitely not anime style; where you got the absurd idea that it's a requirement to qualify as a JRPG I cannot begin to guess. Oh, and the "J" part refers to Japanese style, not simply made in Japan.

TIL Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy X, and the entire Trails franchise are not JRPGs. :/
Currently Playing: Animal Crossing, Civilization VI
