Is a marketing ploy to get players to happily accept a delay
It used to be true when games couldn't be patched.

but still if the game’s initial release and first impressions follows it forever. Look at no man’s sky. Game rules now but people refuse to play it because the I Html release was a disaster.

How is that a marketing ploy? I'll buy a game I want when I want to and am capable of doing so. One of those factors is release date. And I'd prefer my game to be good than bad. All a delay can do is lessen hype.

It is, and kind of sad that Pokemon doesn't want to follow it.

It's trying to spin it as a benefit to the game when really it's just because they managed the project poorly

Nah it's an old Shiggy quote being taken out of context.

If you want the "ploy" then look no further then the official statement that reeks of PR filler when they could have just wrote "The game has been delayed till 4/10/20. We're very sorry. Please be excited." and it would have had the same effect.
"You don't scare me. I play Touhou."

it still is tho. just not as harsh. In the sense that, why would i want my initial playthrough to be possibly s***ty if I know they're gonna patch it in a month. May as well wait it out.
that's as a consumer

on a business side... bad first impressions can get you f***ed
