I don't know why Square Enix thought it would be a good idea to add an unnecessary element from one of the worst FF games to a remake of one of the best FF games. The Stagger mechanic didn't even really add anything to gameplay; it was just "you do some damage so you can do more damage." What this has to do with FFVII is anybody's guess. I understand the idea of making improvements, but this is not an update and just ruins the purity of FFVII. Go ahead and add Overkill from FFX, but what was the point of Stagger from FFXIII?

It looks more like the stagger mechanic of Lightning Returns, so I assume the conditions will be more varied than dealing damage to deal even more damage. Limb targeting Ann's hitting the boss with its weakness will probably induce staggers too. The stagger periods are also short just like in Lightning Returns so that builds into my speculation.

Since when did everyone hate the stagger mechanic of FFXIII?

Too bad for you, i love that FFVII-R will have stagger mechanics and im very happy for their decision.

I disagree. As long as the stagger meter goes down over time, the stagger mechanic encourages players to engage enemies as frequently as possible, so that safe hit-and-run strategies aren’t overly dominant. In addition to this, stagger buildup rate is another factor that moves can be balanced around, with stagger being another type of meter to manage.

As long as regular hitstun still exists-that is, as long as the stagger mechanic is not used as an excuse to prevent regular attacks from having hitstun under normal circumstances like Critical Breaks from FF Type-0, then it essentially has no downside.

Stagger makes as much difference ss pushing a button to attack does. While I think it looks cool, I'm with TC here. It doesn't seem to add much except maybe getting longer fights done quicker.

But then again, pretty much every mechanic is about as useless considering most games are DPS races. Just matters how engaging the mechanics are towards the gameplay to most players. Which I guess is kinda the point to games, so...lol.
