This is the best news I heard all year. OMG OMG OMG.

Still cant believe it. How do you make a f***ing battle system were you cant f***in loose? Tabata found a f***ing way. Thank god FF will never be tarnished again by this looser who doesnt know how to make an action game!!! Holding down a button for combo's, and removing all choice and risk reward from the battle system. How could he think the game was going to be good?

GOODBYE MOTHER f***ER!!!!!

I take this as good news minus not being able to play as hot girls on console. At least we won't see anymore "Let Tabata take over FFVII-R" posts.

WTF are you talking about? How does Tabata resigning and the 3 of the 4 dlcs being cancelled translate to FFVII:R developments? Like you guys find the most silly ways for your gloom and doom topics.

This has no impact on 7R. Once KH3 is finished teams will shift and money will flow.

It does and it doesn't. From what I'm gathering, this may have something to do with Luminous Studios having apparently lost 30+ million before it's managed to complete some sort of original IP Tabata really was gung-ho for.

So either they've tried to push Tabata's idea into a direction he doesn't like, and he's quitting out of frustration, or the project wasn't going well, and Square feels like its sunk too much money into a bad idea and failing studio arm, and Tabata is being asked to resign.

Either way, that's a lot of money lost, which might influence future decision making.

The money lost is supposedly from videos movies and the DLC. The studio was just made this year. Im baffled it went south this quick for him.

Is Square cursed to lose a lot of money a few years/months after getting a lot of it?

Welcome to the video game industry. This is part of why yearly releases, microtransactions, and "live services" are so popular - releasing one big game every few years and watching the cash go down and down until they can get the next one out is a pretty stressful way to do business, and one that investor's aren't fond of. SE's next big release is almost out, their other recent titles aren't going to make them rich, and then they decided to start up a new studio, so a big loss isn't that surprising. And with SE's management skills...

Anyway, I liked FFXV, I don't think Tabata was responsible for its problems, but I'm not going to miss him as he never got much of a chance to do anything either and putting him in charge of Luminous Productions might have been a pretty big mistake.
Nothing to see here.
