Is that possible without much hair pulling and very loud grunts?

Should be.

Just be aware things cost an insane amount, there's no aim assist (which is actually a good thing), things hit like a truck AND you can't see enemy health bars.

Oh damn. I’m actually fazed by that last sentence. Not knowing when it’s gonna die..but I guess it’s kinda like Monster Hunter?

Haven't played monster hunter, but the enemies do give signs of low health, so there is indicators. Just no red bar.

You guys are better than me. I'm finding Normal to be all the challenge I want. I've lost count of the number of times I've died. Still, I'm having fun, and that's what gaming is all about.

i would definitely advise againt that. you're gonna be farming for resources which will take out all the fun of going into battle and properly enjoying the story for the first time

just play on very hard, and experience of the best games ever without much frustration. then, you start a ng+ and play on ultra hard

I first did Very Hard but due to save files being incompatible my first run through the complete edition was on ultra.
I found that whilst I had to collect more shards / resources for stuff, I never had to grind (beyond specific parts that only rarely drop).
Granted, I was the type that took down most machines that crossed my path, even if I could avoid them.

i played on ultra hard from the start(fresh). its pretty grueling at the start but gets easier as you go along. Well either that or you get use to it. Sort of like new God of War GMGOW difficulty though I think that game was harder to abuse unlike in this game with freezing, ropecaster, and stickybombs.

Especially use the elemental resistance potions. i didn't and i got one shot a lot due to it XD (mostly by annoying glinthawks)

I would advise to get the warbow

Why not. I am completely new to the game and is playing on ultra hard without using any cheap reduce difficulty.

I only put 1 point in silent strike and the rest to scavenger and traveler. I get drop kinda frequently though. I also farm striders for some early purple mods then sells them for shard. It is not that hard though. When I got enough shard for Sharp Bow (god damn 525 shards), I used it to one shot Watcher very easily. It is my main damage now. You need to make use of silent strike to save your arrows and one shot strider, gazer or lower machines but at I am now (just completed the first bandit camp), I have like unlimited hunter arrows and fire arrows (hunter arrow's damage suck but fire very good) thanks to the scavenger and traveler point. I even killed the first Sawtooth in my 2nd try with sharp bow and 4 wire traps.

I don't know the rest how of the game is but it seem very possible so far. Hunter bow normal arrows is very bad at damage, just R1 or R2 instead. Otherwise using fire arrows, you will get tons of blaze when you farm striders and gazers.

Sounds like you are being very smart about your resources and you don’t mind getting killed. You are well prepared for a harder experience.

I started out on normal then knocked it down to story. I enjoyed the game, but didn’t learn how to use all of the weapons. I never used the potions or the elemental weapons and didn’t change my outfits. I didn’t even have to hit vital parts of the machines to destroy them. Basically I missed part of the experience. I did do a normal run in NG+ which taught me to hit weak points on the machines, but I was still overpowered. On story mode I have 3,000 hit points with a damage arrow and can drop a Thunderjaw with 3 well placed arrows.

I bow down to you guys standing up to the ultra hard experience.
