Literally every single game, the most hated squadmates are always the humans. Ashley, Kaidan, Jacob, Miranda, Vega, Cora, Liam. Every single fan who actually likes these characters (ie, Me) are definitely within a small minority of the fanbase. The only human squadmate I’ve seen not get continuously s*** on is Jack, and even then she has her detractors.

(I guess Zaeed and Kasumi as well, but do they even count?)

I would chalk it up to just different people having different tastes if it wasn’t always specifically the human squadmates, so there obviously has to be something more to it, I just don’t understand what.

Because in a game where there are several alien races, humans are the characters that have the least to bring to the table.

I dont really hate anyone except Ashley in the whole franchise, though, but I have only used Jacob when is mandatory.

Disinterest I can understand, but not pure, seething hatred.

Sure, if you ignore everything like context, character motivation, and character development. Then yes, Ashley is a gigantic racist with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Say, what say we ask Wrex about all the things he loves about Salarians? Or maybe Tali can give us a speech over how great she gets along with the Geth?

Cassandra: *Disgusted Noise*

Personal rant aside, that still doesn’t account for all the other human characters and all the vitriol they recieve. Again, I could accept it if it really was just disinterest, but it’s not. It’s outright hatred, cursing the very inclusion of these characters, ‘tainting’ their beloved story.

I’m sorry, but I need WAY more than just ‘Lol, aliens are more interesting’ to justify that.

Anderson was screwed by a Turian. He doesnt hate all the turians.
Ashley grandfather (meaning, not her) was the one with the problem. She just went with it for no reason.
And she keeps doubting the superior officer choises.
Also, she is fugly in Mass Effect 3.
She has to die, if only, just so I dont see that face again.

Tali gets along with the geth marvelously. She even cry when Legion dies.
Krogan where massively used and Wrex have a point for his hate towards salarians. Yet, when he is in SurKesh, he doesnt say "that animal have a hole in his head".

I cant be responsable for all the players that hate human characters. I only hate one, and I explained why.

That is fine. I have no answers for it, though.

...... Ooooookay, if you think a character ‘needs to die’ because you think they’re not pretty, you might want to think about getting some therapy. That is a BIG red flag.

As to your other points: Yes, Tali gets along great with the Geth now. But it took three games of character development to get there. Before that, she didn’t give a second thought to genocide being a completely acceptable solution to dealing with the Geth.

Why is Ashley exempt from this exact same development? You praise Tali for getting over her prejudices, which I would argue are even worse than Ashley’s. Yet you damn Ashley for a few out of context sentiments said in ignorance.

Also, as far as Ashley having no reason to be prejudiced: The First Contact War wasn’t that long ago, her family was still blacklisted, and thus she was still feeling the effects of General Williams surrender, because of what the Turians did. Add to the fact that the Council constantly treated humans as second-class citizens throughout the first game and kept sending human colonists to the verge so they could reap the benefits without having to deal with all the pirates and slavers.

Add to that her whole analogy about sending sending your dog after a bear, where humanity was the dog in that analogy. And, yeah, she was entirely RIGHT about the Council putting their own species before humanity. Can you really blame Ashley for becoming just a little bit prejudice in the first game? Something she get’s over pretty much by the second game?

She is a female character that look like one of those porn stars that are full of plastic.
There is no reason for her to look like that in Mass Effect 3. In Mass Effect 1 at least she looks like a real person.

And ther difference is that Tali have a reason for hating the Geth.
It is not Tali who changed, but the Geth. Or you could say that the idea of the Geth that Tali had was wrong.

First, it is not the council that send humans colonist to to the verge. In fact, the council was against that. And that is why they didnt lift a finger when they where attacked.
If your goverment tells you that you shouldnt make your house at the base of a active vulcano, you cant be mad when your house is on fire and the goverment does nothing.
So the council constantly treated humans as second-class (wich they are, in the story, by the way), so she have every reason to think that the aliens are the same as the animals?
Also, you know what, there are no such things as animals in the citadel. Hell, there are not even fish in the lake.
She is hidding behind the "everyone treat me bad because of my grand father" so no one notice how incompetent she is.
It is not like Sheppard is a god, or have technology that she didnt had in Eden Prime, but Ashley squad was dead against something that Sheppard and Alenko can deal easily. Jenkins only died because he did not stop when Sheppard did the signal.

She cant see the difference between the animals and the aliens.
That is not a little bit prejudice.
She nag Sheppard for giving access to the ship aliens, like she have any right to question her superior officer.
I dont remember her in the second game, I think I let her live only once to see what happens.

By your logic, wouldn’t Tali have no reason to hate the Geth in the first game because the Geth exiled her ancestors, not her personally?

And that’s true that Tali’s perception of the Geth changed over time. Just like how Ashley’s perception of the other races changed over time. So, again I ask, why is Ashley exempt from the same development?

And, really, Ashley questioning letting Non-Alliance personnel full access to a prototype, classified Alliance warship is too insubordinate for you? One, Shepard’s not a f***ing dictator. If one of his/her soldiers has a concern, he/she hears them out and talks them through it.

Or should we get on Garrus’ case for questioning Shepard on whether or not to bring Saren in alive. Or Liara questioning Shepard about sparing the Rachni. Or Tali having the utter gall to ask for classified Alliance intel for, for all intents and purposes, a spiritual practice. Because, y’know, Ashley’s catholic which means she’s just the worst.

I guess you also hate Liara whenever she says ‘By the Goddess’.

See, this is why I can’t understand Ashley haters. Every single bad thing you can say about her can be easily applied to so many other characters but they don’t count because they ‘develop’, when Ashley develops too but, for some reason I can’t fathom, her character development doesn’t count.

No, because it is not like Tali can get to her planet.

Because Tali have a reason to hate the Geth. They did kick her race from their planet. And it is not like she knows that they are waiting for the creators to come back.

Yes, because it is not like the alliance was the only one that created the ship. And she is in no position to question s***. Now, the admiral that make that inspection, being a superior officer of Sheppard, can say something (though, even if he doesnt like it, Sheppard is a spectre, so too bad for him).

None of them is an official of the alliance, and only Garrus follow some kind of chain of command.

What part of the catholic belief say that it is ok to hate people if you cant tell the difference between the individuals or the animals? What part of the catholic belief say that it is ok to hate animals, by that matter?
No, the problem with her being a catholic, is that is complete hypocrisy. Catholic belief dictate to put the other check, not to hate everyone that look different for something that happens to another person.
If you tell me that she would hate all the turians, still would be stupid, but would have more weight. But no, she hates everyone that isnt human.

There is game proof that the goddess that Liara is talking is actually real. There is no proof, ingame or outside that the god that Ashley believe in is not made it up.
Now, if you would have said Thane, then you might had a point.
