Great choices!

I would add the Tall Woman from Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water.

The Maiden herself, with an honourable mention for Fuyuhi.

Sakuya and Ayako from FFIV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, although I never played it myself

Lisa from PT, although I never played it either

The zombies in Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare...something about them is quite unsettling, and they are way too tough. Most of the monsters in that game have a great sense of cosmic horror to them, IMO.

I realise that's only 7...I will have a think for more...

Yes, I've never played it either, but I have watched some playthroughs. It's really a shame the game was canceled. have you ever heard of P.T. successors? https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/1482-horror-games/77248110

Interesting choices there.

If anyone here is familiar with Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon, I always find the weeping female ghosts particularly unnerving. Not that they are particularly gross-looking; no, it's their behaviour that makes me jump through the roof. A static image doesn't do them justice; look for a video if you are curious.

Add to it the fact they appear in the most claustrophobic locations without as much as a warning, and you have a top-of-the list contender.

Definitely some top contenders there. I'm partial to the Closers from SH 3. From their imposing height to their appearance which manages to be both disturbing and oddly feminine, it's a monster I never liked dealing with but always wanted to get a better look at.

I'd like to add the Ooze from RE: Revelations. I realise they are the basic enemy in the game, but the way they move and slither out of vents, a bit like the generators in RE4 I feel, is quite unnatural and freakish.
It is always a good sign for a horror game if even the basic enemies are a threat and scary.
