This is the new news topic.

This thread can also be utilized to speculate how sweaty Albert Brooks is at any given moment.

Looks like Netflix has entered the lobbying game.

https://variety.com/2019/politics/news/doj-oscar-rules-changes-netflix-1203178413/

Sure seems like a leap to say that Netflix is selling movies since their service isn't exclusively film. And you aren't really buying them by giving the service a sub...

also @Pus_N_Pecans plz sticky this and get rid of The Front Page thx

How can requiring a theatrical window for awards consideration be construed as antitrust or anti-competition? It doesn't make sense to say that excluding streaming risks giving theaters a "monopoly" on film, because "theaters" is not a company or a single entity. Theatrical releases are already competitive among themselves, for awards and for business. And the market stays competitive because the players are all playing by the same rules. Positioning Netflix as a competitor to "theaters" as a broad concept only amplifies the sense that what they're selling is something different than movies, and thus should be eligible for something different than the Oscars.

It still sounds crazeballs to me that Tom Hooper is directing a Cats movie musical. Cats! And Jennifer Hudson is playing the big awards baity role that gets to sing Memory. She’s already won one Oscar for singing a song. Is she gonna win a second Oscar for singing a second song?

I need a second f***ing hobby.

Apparently CATS is using motion-capture and giant scaled sets to make the actors the size of cats within the world of the movie.

So, no, Jennifer Hudson will not be winning a second Oscar...

Wtf. April Fool's was two days ago. I can't imagine this would actually be true.

For the scale thing, that's how the set for CATS usually looks-for example, here's a tire used for the set with humans for comparison:

However, that kind of thing plays very differently with a static set in a theater production than it does with a movie. I just want this to be the most glorious dumpster fire humanly possible.
