According to Yu Suzuki, if Sega president Hayao Nakayama saw that a game's graphics were completed, he would consider the game finished and try to release it. To get around this -- since it was impossible to just show nothing when Nakayama came by -- Yu rigged a switch under his desk to wipe Space Harrier's color RAM, using it for on-demand graphical sabotage. During one of the times he did this, the effect looked so impressive, Yu extracted the data and kept it in as the game's actual colors.
