This is a rare monster FAQ for the game "The Last Remnant" for the XBOX 360. It's the latest (as of this writing) game from the well-known RPG making game company Square-Enix, and probably my favourite RPG so far in this console generation. Since I think this game is so great, I decided to make a FAQ for it that will help others find all the elusive rare monsters hidden in the game. I will try not to include any spoilers for the story in this FAQ, unless you count area names as spoilers of course. This is my first FAQ, so it might be a little rough on the edges, but I'm trying my best to make it as good as possible, and hope others will appreciate it. I guess all that is left to say is, good luck hunting. =============================================================================== 2.00 Version History =============================================================================== Version 1.10 : Split Infinity has re-uploaded his videos. A link to his playlist on Youtube can be found in the new section of the FAQ (6.00). Version 1.05 : Added some missing drops and splits. Had to remove all video links due to the fact that Split Infinitys account on Youtube got suspended. Will have new ones up when he decides to re-upload them. Version 1.00 : Final monsters added, the guide now has every rare monster in the game, with videos for every single one of them all made by the one and only Split Infinity. Only thing missing now are probably some drops, and split components. Added a section where I explain the game mechanic for spawning rare monsters. Version 0.90 : More monsters added. A lot more video links added. Version 0.80 : More monsters added. Fixed old video links and added new ones. Added some lovely ASCII made by PMAZTAH. Version 0.70 : More monsters added. More missing info added. More video links added. Gave the part where I explain how to unlock the secret guilds its own shortcut number. Version 0.60 : More monsters added, all guild quest monsters should be up now. Filled in missing info on some monsters. Added links to videos made by Split Infinity. Added info on how to unlock the secret guilds. Version 0.40 : A lot more monsters have been added. Added a section dedicated solely to quest monsters. Added more credits. Version 0.25 : First version of the FAQ. Contains a lot of rare monsters, but is probably missing a lot of them. There will definitely be more so keep checking back for updates. =============================================================================== 3.00 Game Mechanic for spawning Rare Monsters =============================================================================== Looking through the list, you might be wondering why I mention what monsters will be present and which ones won't be, on a lot of the monsters. Well, you see, spawning rare monsters in The Last Remnant, works like this. Every zone in the game has 2 sets of monsters that will be present. Let's take the area "Heroic Ramparts" as an example. Enemies that will always be present are Roseflies/Abaddons, and Jhana or Hraesvelg enemies. This is the first set of enemies here. Second set of enemies are Abelisks/Misericordes/Spiritlords. These will not always be present, and if they are gone, a rare monster will be up somewhere in Heroic Ramparts. Now, different rare monsters will spawn, depending on what your first set of enemies are. In this particular area, the rare monster "Mad Hurricane", will only spawn if the first set of enemies have Abaddons, not Roseflies. The rare monster "Jarama" will only spawn when Roseflies are present, not Abaddons. Knowing this, you can simply check to see if the second set of enemies are present. If not, a rare monster will be up, possibly the one you are looking for. You should know though, that which rare monster will be up is totally random. You will simply have to check the whole area to see which one is up, or you can just check the spot the rare monster you want to find is supposed to spawn at and see if it's there. Note that the guide has info on most of the monsters on which enemies you will see in the area, and which ones you won't see. Follow that, and you will find the monster you are looking for eventually. Split Infinity has made 2 videos where he explains this game mechanic, watch them if you are still confused about how it works. Finding rare monsters in "The Last Remnant", is based mostly on luck. Some times it will take a lot of time before you manage to get the one you want to spawn, and it can be very frustrating. There are only a few rare monsters you need to kill to complete certain guild quests, these are marked with "Guild Quest Monster" in the info. You can also go straight to the Guild quest monster section of the guide. The others are completely optional and not really necessary to kill unless you really want to or want the drops from it. If you plan to hunt all of these, you will need a lot of patience. Also note that I will often give directions according to the mini map. I will however not give the location of where to find the maps of the areas. What I'm trying to say is that you should find the map of the area BEFORE you start looking for any rare monster. One more thing to note is that I often refer to attacks called "AoE attacks". These are attacks that hit big areas and will damage anyone inside that area, hence they are called "Area of Effect" attacks, or AoE for short. Now on to some frequently asked questions : Can I make rare monsters come back and kill them again? The answer is yes. You can kill them as many times as you want as long as you can make them spawn again. It is currently unknown if rare monsters connected to guild quests can respawn, but I will update on that ASAP. What do I do if the rare monster is not there? If this happens, you have to exit all the way out to the world map or city map, depending on what dungeon you are going to. It can some times be a long walk, and some times it's a short one, but it needs to be done. If you manage to spawn the rare monster, you can make it come back if you move 2 zones away. This will only work if the rare monster was there the first time you checked, and obviously in some areas this is impossible since it can be just one big zone. Will the rare monster still be there if I load a save infront of it? Yes it will still be there. You should always save in front of a rare monster you are unsure you will be able to beat. Some of these rare monsters can be very tough, so it's always better to be safe than sorry. How do I see if the monster is a rare monster? Use your targeting and place it on the monster. If it's a rare monster the name will appear in green. Regular monsters always have their name appear in white. A battle with a rare monster also features different battle music. The monster had more/less HP than you have listed? The monsters in this game have different stats depending on what your Battle Rank is. If you have a high battle rank, the HP of the monster might be higher, and the lower it is, the lower the HP might be. I simply either list the HP it had when I fought it, or the HP someone who found the monster gave me. It's just to give you an estimate. I have tried over 100 times and the monster still doesn't spawn! : There are a few monsters that won't spawn until you are after a certain point in the story line. Unfortunately, it's impossible for me to know (at this time) exactly where you need to be to spawn certain monsters. If I know where you need to be, it will either be in the note about the specific area, or in the info on the monster itself. If you simply can't get a monster to spawn, try continuing the story a little and come back later to try again. Will the Downloadable Content (DLC) for the game mess up rare monster spawning? Yes, in some cases it will. If a DLC boss is in the same area as the rare you are trying to spawn, you have to kill the boss before it's possible to spawn it. An example of this is every rare monster in Heroic Ramparts. If you have the DLC, the Jhana Royals will block every rare monster spawn in the whole area until you defeat them. However, if the DLC boss is in another zone of the area, you can still spawn the rare monsters. An example of this can be Snowtoad in The Aqueducts. Fiery Gates will be in the "Central Sluiceway" zone, but Snowtoad spawns in the "East Waterway Control" zone. Since the boss is not in the same zone as the rare monster, it is still possible to spawn it. Now, on to the list! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4.01 Gaslin Caves ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Deathstinger (Rosefly) - Hypnotic Hollow : Go straight and it will spawn right after the first 3 Rosefly enemies, in front of the dig point in the wall. If you're facing this monster early in the game, make sure you save first since it can be a very tough fight. Uses curse on first turn. Best way to start off is to only attack with one union, and let the others stand by. That way only 1 union will get cursed and that union might even resist it if you are lucky. One way to ensure only 1 union will get cursed is to let Tornado surprise attack you. Drops : Spiritlord Scale Split components : Archfiend Bone x4 Spiritlord Scale x4 Spiritlord Fur x4 Archfiend Rawhide x4 Longbeak (Green Wyvern) : Sitting on the edge of the cliff to the left before the bridge, next to the harvest point in the tree. Notes : Uses Self-Destruct on the first turn, which does a lot of damage. Drops : Land Insecta Talon Caligula (Giant) - Central Tier : Just go straight and it will be standing right in front of the first door. I never spawned this one before I had access to the underground tier. It also seems like this monster is a one-time spawn, meaning that if you kill it, it will never appear again. Notes : Around 150 000hp. Uses the Hammerspin AoE attack. Drops : Tanned Beastman Hide, Tanned Colossus Hide Split components : Retral Colossus Shell x3 Large Talon x2 Thick Beast Hide x4 Boggart Core x1 Bandit (Yama) - Central Tier : Spawns on the east part of the zone, in the spot where the first Wild Raptors normally spawn. To be able to spawn the second group, which is the last 4 monsters, you have to be after Numor mines in the story. If one of the raptors to the left when you enter is sleeping, you can encounter the first 4 on the list. If both raptors are running around, you can encounter the last 4. Rare monsters here only appear if Demons/Wyverns or Evil Eyes/Vile plants are NOT present in the area. ==================================== First group (Before Numor Mines) : ==================================== Ground Cobra (Chimera) : Go to the middle of the large area, then down the slope to the right and you should see it. If this digging point is there, the Grand Beetles probably won't be there, meaning you can check for rare monsters that require them to be gone alot faster. This trick only works when you can have chimeras on the highground. It does not work when you need the moth, like you do with for example Sledgehammer. Octoeyes (Amoeba) - Central Area : Go all the way through "Eastern Area", then go keep going north after you get to the highground. Octoeyes spawns with the qsiti enemies in the next big room. Artaxa (Moth) - Central area : Other side of entering side, replaces chimera enemies. You can see this monster on the other side, after you go through the door right after entering the area. The Sledgehammer is just beyond the east door in the circular room. No Grand Beetles or Gluttons can be present. You also need a Moth on the highground of the starting area, make sure it's NOT the rare monster moth, which will be sleeping. Can be spawned as soon as Heroic Ramparts appear on the map. Notes : Has around 60 000hp. Uses the Hammerspin AoE attack, which can hurt alot if it hits multiple union members. Can also reduce your defense and attack with Provoke and Attack Crusher. - Guild Quest Monster - Reward : Union of the Golden Chalice Rank 2 Drops : Mercy Wristlet (Max HP +10% accessory) Split components: Large Bone x2 Beastman Rawhide x3 Retral Colossus Shell x1 Cúchulainn Core x1 Bandit (Human) - Eastern Area : Same place as the Sledgehammer, no Grand Beetles present. Name appears in red. Nephthys spawns at this split. No Grand Beetles or Gluttons present. Drops : Mystic Fiend Husk, Thin Manticore Mane Split components : Mystic Fiend Fang x4 Mystic Fiend Meat x3 Manticore Head x1 Leprechaun Core x1 Omnoraki (Vulture) - Western Area : In the octagonal room with the pillars near the entrance to the section. You can only access this area after you do a side quest. Notes: It can KO individual units. Watch out for its Mend. It uses Mend II when it's HP is critical and heals for around 24 000hp. Split components : Avian Fiend Bone x3 Vulture Wing x2 Retral Vulture Fur x1 Pygmalion (Homunculus) - Western Area : Follow the path to the first big square-shaped area. Pygmalion warps in here. No Nymphilidae enemies present. Notes : Around 30 000hp. Drops : Sharp Homunculus Horn Eye of Doom (Evil Eye) - Disposal Area : This area is only one big room, so you can't miss it if it has spawned. Drops : Land Insecta Talon, Grand Beetle Barb The Hanged Man (Qsiti) - Western Area : ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4.08 Lavafender ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fallen Angel (Small Moth) - Depths of the Underworld : South-West area where you find the map. Right after the first 3 enemies after you enter the zone. Drops : Faerie Fang, Oarfish Rawhide Split components : Faerie Meat Elven Core Oarfish Oil Oarfish Tentacle Sarutahiko (Jhana Fighter) - Path of Anguish : Take the first path to the right, go through the door, it will spawn with the enemies in the next path to the north. You need the Blazing Key to get through the door, which you get in a side qest. These guild tasks are called "Monsterslayer", and there are quite a few of them. As you can see, some of these give you a rank as a reward. This will unlock more tasks for that particular guild, and some times a "Monsterslayer" task. If you don't have one of these Monsterslayer tasks on your list, it means you have to complete another task to unlock a rank which will unlock the Monsterslayer task. With that said, this list is an easy way of finding the location of a monster you need to kill to complete a task, but they are also listed in the general rare monster list in the section above. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5.01 HOW TO UNLOCK THE GUILDS : ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Normal Guild (Union of the Golden Chalice) : This guild is unlocked at the beginning of the game, so it is available right away. You don't have to do anything other than continue to play the game to unlock this one. Celapaleis Secret Guild (Sword of Three Realms) : This guild will be unlocked after you complete a string of 2 side quests for Baron Nielsen in Celapaleis. Simply keep checking the pub in Celapaleis so you don't miss out on any of his quests, and you will unlock the guild when you complete the final one. He will then mention something about notifying a society behind the pub, which is the guild. This guild can also be found in Elysion. To unlock it in Elysion you have to complete a string of 3 side quests for Caedmon in Balterossa. These quests can be done on both disc 1 and disc 2, as long as you recruit Caedmon. The quests are called "Silver Falcons: Part 1" to part 3. After you are done, the guild will be open in the Assembly Plaza. Athlum Secret Guild (Ring of the Labyrinth) : This guild is unlocked when you do a side quest with Emmy on disc 2 called "The Fated One". It will appear behind the pub, so go past it, and you will find the entrance. Be aware that after you do the side quest, they will NOT notify you about the guild, it will simply be available. This guild can also be unlocked in Elysion. For that you have to complete the side quest called "Ladies of Bloody Alice" for Nora on disc 2. Make sure you recruit her, then keep checking the pubs so you don't miss it. After you are done, the guild will be open in the Genaade District. You can also unlock this guild in Ghor, but in Ghor the name for the guild will be "Ring of the Ancient Castle". It is still the same guild though, and offers the same tasks, but different leaders. To unlock it in Ghor, you have to complete the quest for the duke of Ghor during the part with the 6 bases on disc 2. This quest is very easily missed, since you have to talk to the duke after the first, third, and fifth base you finish. If you do this, then finish the story part in Darken Forest, you will get the quest in Ghor by talking to the dukes messenger in the pub. When you are done with the quest, the guild is open in the North-West corner of Ghor. Keep in mind that there is no difference between the guilds in different cities. They all offer the same guild tasks. The only difference is that in other cities, you will be able to recruit different leaders. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5.02 Normal Guild (Union of the Golden Chalice) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dominator (Bird) - Blackdale - The Speckled Chasm : After you enter, go left. Best way to start off is to only attack with one union, and let the others stand by. That way only 1 union will get cursed and that union might even resist it if you are lucky.
