Inside, stand on the pedestal and cast Din's Fire to light all of the toches simultaneously, allowing access inside. Hookshot across the gap and walk through the fake wall. In this room, use the Lens of Truth to look for a fake wall with bombable rocks behind it; use your bombs and enter to find a locked door. Keep a mental note of that, then examine the center apparatus. Equip the lens and find the one pillar that has a skull only visible with the lens before pushing the gear to point towards it to unlock the door across the pit. Look high on either side of the door for two torches we need the Fire Arrows to light.
Proceed down the incline and look for a fake wall in this room to the south (turn left from the entrance). Head through the door behind it to find a room of Gibdos. Clear the room to get a Small Key. Now head to the northern door (also behind a fake wall) to enter the room with a spinning blender blade in the center. Use crouches to dodge the lower blade and collect the five Silver Rupees in this room. Open the chest that appears to get the Dungeon Map. In one of the room's alcoves, there is a sign that will say "come here if you want to see a ferry to the other world". Approach it to fall down into a small cubby. There is both an invisible Skulltula here, as well as an invisible small chest containing a Small Key. Grab that, then clear the enemies in the room to exit from the same door you came in from.
Return to the room with the gear thing and locked door from earlier. Enter and equip your lens to see where the fake walls are. Head down the first door on the left to find a room with 4 ReDeads in it; defeat them all to get a chest with the Compass. Exit back to the corridor and look for a time block behind a fake wall. Play the Song of Time to remove it and pass through to the other side, then shoot the middle eye switch with an arrow (even if it's closed) to remove the ice block in the corner behind a fake wall. Go through there.
Fight the Dead Hand in this room much like we've done before. This time, you can use your lens to see where he is hiding and throw Bombs at him. Once you defeat him, you will get the Hover Boots. Go back to the room with the Beamos and 3 rocks, and bomb the one real rock straight ahead. Open the locked door behind it and head down the pathway, past the Beamos, Bladetraps, Skulltula, and first set of guillotines towards a large area. Look to the corner to see a set of Silver Rupees; keep that in mind for later. Instead, run down to the end of the passageway, where the two Beamos are, and look to your right to a frozen eye switch. Equip the lens to see an invisible platform right in front of it, so hop across and shoot it from there instead. Head through the door at the end of this particular set of platforms.
Inside, there is an invisible guillotine. Collect the 5 Silver Rupees scattered around (the one in the corner is floating; play the Song of Time to summon a time block and grab it that way). Open the chest in the small room that's now open for a Blue Rupee, then equip your lens to see a second, invisible chest containing a Small Key.
Return to the previous room and leap across, past the Beamos. Collect the 5 Silver Rupees in the area we saw earlier, using the Hookshot target on the ceiling to collect the two floating ones. Doing so causes a small chest to appear, which contains Arrows. Now hit the nearby crystal switch and head to the back. In the next room, equip the lens to see a stone block in the wall you can pull out and protect yourself from the falling spikes. Pull it along to the middle of the two spikes to block both from reaching the ground. Examine the jail cells to get Gold Skulltula #82, as well as a chest containing more Arrows.
Pull the block to the end of the path to use it to clamber onto the nearby ledge. Use the falling spikes' topside to cross to the switch on the other side. Step on it to reveal a chest containing a Small Key. There is another chest here containing a Blue Rupee as well. Return to the previous room and there is a nearby guillotine with a sign about "sacred feet". Equip your Hover Boots and cross to the locked door on the ledge.
In this room, there are invisible spikes. Keep the Hover Boots on and you will glide over the spikes easily. Kill the two ReDeads in the room to spawn a chest containing a Blue Rupee. Use the lens to see the real Silver Rupees in the room and collect them, using the Hookshot on any Rupees that appear to be floating. The door to the east leads to a fight with two Stalfos and it only nets you a Red Rupee, so you can skip it if you want. Open the locked door to the north.
In this room, you need to equip the Iron Boots to fight the wind. Head down to the end of the bridge to a room with ReDeads. You know what to do. Kill them, then look for an invisible chest to get a Small Key. Before you leave, also grab Gold Skulltula #83, then return to the bridge, look for a fake wall and equip your Hover Boots to glide over, with the wind at your back. Inside, kill the Gibdos and open the chest they spawn for a Blue Rupee. Now blow up the rocks in the corner by the locked door for Gold Skulltula #84. There is another invisible chest in this room, but it only contains Arrows. Enter the locked door.
Pull the block in the corner for a shortcut back to the first room with the spinning blades. Use the block to reach the ladder on the opposite ledge, then board the boat and play Zelda's Lullaby. The boat will start moving and Stalfos will come in to hijack the ship. You can fight them if you want, or just keep your shield up. Leap off at the end.
Look across the pit and shoot the Bomb Flowers to make a bridge. As you cross, turn around and look to the side of the cliff for Gold Skulltula #85. On the other side, head to the time block and play the Song of Time to make it go away. Shoot the eye switch to spawn a Hookshot target. Climb onto it, grapple onto the target on the ledge above and press the switch. Go through the newly-opened door. Equip the lens to see a quasi-maze also filled with otherwise invisible Floormasters. Defeat the enemies and enter the chamber with the three spinning skulls to find a Small Key. The Boss Key is located next to this room. In here, two walls of spikes will try to squish and impale Link, but note that they are made out of wood. Cast Din’s Fire as the walls get close to burn through them, allowing you to safely get the Boss Key out from the treasure chest.
Head back to the previous room and enter the last door we have not opened. Equip your lens to see the invisible platforms to reach the boss door, but before heading through, be sure to grab Gold Skulltula #86 on the wall to the left. With that done, open the boss door to see the terrifying monster running the strings in this temple.
Boss Battle - Bongo Bongo, Phantom Shadow Beast
The monster of the Shadow Temple uses his big, disembodied hands to fight. He's actually pretty tough, but he was one of my favorite bosses to fight in Boss Rush, so I've gotten pretty good at dealing with him. I'm no longer as good with him as I was back then, when my record was 48 seconds, but I still know how to deal a good punch to Bongo Bongo. Equip the Biggoron's Sword, as you won't use your shield in this fight, as well as the Hover Boots, because they help stabilize against the movements of the drumbeats.
Anyway, begin by using L-Target on his hands before they can attack, in one of many ways, including a sweep across the arena, a punch, or an attempt to flatten you. Stun both hands with arrows to turn them blue, and Bongo Bongo will make two fists and fly across the arena. As he charges up this attack, equip your Lens of Truth and charge up a spin attack, releasing it as he gets near to stun him. Now go up to his eye and either use Jump Attacks or just your normal sword slashes. Repeat this until you win.
Upon winning the fight, grab the Heart Container before stepping in the blue light to claim your Shadow Medallion. Click here to return to the main walkthrough
