In North America, the price of the Nintendo 3DS at the 2011 launch was $249.99 US. After low initial sales and consumer backlash, Nintendo lowered the price of the system to $169.99 in August of that year. In order to appease early adopters who paid the full price, Nintendo initiated the Ambassador Program. Those who qualified were given 20 free downloadable games. Ten NES games were made available immediately, while an additional ten Game Boy Advance games became available to download in December of that year.
